Wow! What a surprise! After a long hard day at work, Hayden Winter had his evening all planned out. He was going to eat dinner and get some sleep. Granted, he had no idea what he was walking into. Now could you imagine working overtime and coming home to this face staring back at you?!
Because he had quite the surprise when he entered his bedroom.
Snuggled up in his warm sheets and blanket, was this beautiful cat!
Hayden quickly recognized this snuggle bug to be Fezgin, a local cat who lived happily on the streets in his neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey.
In Islam, cats are considered a sacred animal — as the story goes, a cat saved Prophet Muhammad from a deadly snake and he blessed the animal in gratitude.
“Istanbul is basically a city of cats and dogs,” Winter told the Dodo. “It’s really great – people just feed them, and they are part of the community.”
Upon inspection, Winters realized that Fezgin had let herself in the window after pushing through the screen!
On several other occasions, she had broken into his home. The surprise was her jumping in the bed and settling down.
“She’s a little mischievous,” Winter said. “She’s always playing around.”
Under these circumstances, Winters decided to take some photos of Fezgin and shared them in a private Facebook group, Catspotting. In return, her break-in gained them both a lot of attention.
Hayden has given thought to leaving an “open window” for Fezgin on those cold winter nights.
“She’ll be back, I’m sure,” Winter said. “Like all cats in Istanbul, she’s the boss.”
