A construction crew in Ohio has a new coworker. She has four paws, whiskers and lots of orange kitty energy!
It began when workers from RiverReach Construction were checking equipment at a job site before starting their day. They heard tiny meows crying for help coming from inside a Komatsu excavator!
A mini ginger kitten had fallen down inside the excavator and there was no way for it to get back out. Chase Guello an operating supervisor at the company sprang into action. But he couldn’t fit or reach down into the cavity to rescue the kitten. So he had to quickly think of an alternative method.
“Normally, it’s a piece of equipment. Right now, it’s this little guy. There’s a cat stuck.”
Unexpected New Coworker
Guello had no other option than to remove the 100-pound skid plates at the bottom of the excavator. He unscrewed them and made sure the kitten was out of harm’s way, then kicked the plates loose. It revealed the tiny ginger fluff ball who landed heroically on the ground. Thankfully, it was easily scooped up after the fall!

“We ended up taking the kitten home. We looked around and couldn’t find its mother. There were no signs of any other cats. I don’t know how she got there”
Since being rescued, the kitten, a baby girl, was taken to One of a Kind Pets. They are a rescue and adoption center in Akron, Ohio. even better, she was fostered by a friend of the mechanics own mother for a few weeks. That is before being adopted by the company’s shop mechanic!
We’re Invested in Her Future Career
After asking their followers for name suggestions they decided on an appropriately construction-themed name. The winning name Komatsu, or “Sue” for short, is after the brand of excavator where she was found.
Komatsu North America was so impressed by the rescue that they sent Sue a tiny reflective construction vest and a hard hat with holes for her ears, just purr-fect for job site safety!
“We think Sue is ready for the job site!”
