For kitten rescuers and foster parents, one of their last responsibilities is often an adoption event. Here, the adorable kittens in their care are presented to the public, usually for the first time. But never do they expect the kitten to be stolen from the location! And yet, that’s exactly what happened in Minnesota to this adorable 2 month old kitten named Marin. Thankfully the story has a happy ending with the little one being returned by a regretful individual.

Marin Has Had An Interesting Life So Far

His tale began in August 2026, when the Tri-County Humane Society introduced him on their social media pages. And while he was suffering from ulcerations on his eyes as many cats do, his treatment plan was quite unique.

We have a kitten in foster care named Marin. This tiny guy arrived at Tri-County Humane Society in late August with severe, perforating ulcerations on both of his eyes. Although his little body was trying to heal those infected wounds on its own, he clearly needed extra medical care and TLC.
Marin was started on a treatment plan that included pain management, oral antibiotics, antibiotic eye drops, and serum eye drops. Serum is a component of blood that has antibodies and other healing factors. And this is where Handsome comes into the story. Handsome was a very good boy who donated his blood while he was under anesthesia for his neuter surgery. His blood was processed to remove the serum portion to be used for eye drops. Those drops are like liquid gold, delivering organic healing factors directly to his infected and ulcerated eyes. (It’s OK it’s a different species’ blood since it’s not a transfusion, but rather a topical treatment).
Within a week, both eye ulcers have stabilized, the infection is clearing, and Marin is even getting more of his vision back.

An Adoption Event Gone Awry

Once Marin’s eye issues were beginning to improve and a plan was set, he was ready for adoption. All was going as expected at the location. Potential adopters are placed in a small room to interact with the animals. If it’s a good fit, papers are signed, fees are paid and the lucky feline is off to their new life.

But in Marin’s case, things didn’t go as planned. The rescue quickly put out a plea on their social media pages for any info.

We need your help. Today was Marin’s first day back at Tri-County Humane Society. The day didn’t go how we wanted or expected, and we are asking for the community’s aid.
Volunteers alerted us this afternoon after they saw a visitor interacting with Marin then quickly leaving the cat room. They discovered Marin wasn’t in his kennel, and video footage shows the visitor removed him from the kennel, placed him in their bag, and left TCHS.

Marin’s health has improved greatly, but he still needs specific follow-up care. To the person who took him, or to members of the community who may know who took him – we just want him back safely. Contact us and bring him back ASAP, and we will not press charges. We want to be clear: Marin’s health is NOT in danger; we just want his eyes to continue to improve.

To the person who took him, there’s still time to do the right thing.

In A Happy Twist of Fate, Marin Was Returned the Same Day

No one knew what to expect from the situation. But thankfully the person who made the poor decision DID change their minds. And the rescue shared the cutest photos of a very relieved foster mom and baby Marin.

We have the news we wanted to share: Marin the kitten who was taken yesterday was just returned! He is safe and healthy, and he is reunited with his foster parent. The person who took Marin dropped him off outside in a box and called us to tell us what they had done. They were emotional and apologized profusely. We are just happy he is back and safe, and we thank them for returning him.

Marin is in great shape, but we are not listing him for adoption again yet. But we want to stress, he is healthy and in great condition.

We’ll leave comments on for now, but we’re not going to tolerate any negative comments about this person, who did the right thing ultimately, or anything unconstructive. Our team has been through a lot in the past day. But well wishes for Marin – we’re happy to hear those!

Be sure to follow Tri-County Humane Society and all the deserving foster babies in their care.

Marin’s foster mom also posted a video with the fluffy boy on their page to watch. He may not be able to see clearly what occurred, but he surely can feel all the love!
