It’s always a good idea to be prepared to perform cat CPR on a beloved pet. But if you’re like most people, remembering, let alone taking action, is easier said than done in an emergency. Although we hope we never have to use these lifesaving skills, it pays to review your knowledge from time to time just in case.
So, to brush up on cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR for felines, here are some videos from Arden Moore and the ameowzing Pet Safety Cat, Casey!
“One of the best gifts we can give our pets is learning pet CPR and first aid so we can be better prepared to help them in a situation when minutes do count,” Arden says.
Among the many hats or “collars” she wears, Moore is a Fear Free certified professional and master pet first aid/CPR instructor. And Casey is the most astoundingly patient meowdel while she demonstrates.
Note: As always, get your cat to the vet ASAP if they are showing difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, or signs of sudden illness, injury, or trauma. While someone drives you, continue performing CPR if needed along the way.
So, without further ado, watch the Cat CPR videos below. (And there is a similar video for those with larger dogs, too, at the end!) For more details, please see our previous article with helpful diagrams and step-by-step explanations.
Small Cat or Puppy CPR with Pet Safety Cat Casey
Below, Arden Moore shows how to perform one-handed CPR on a small cat or dog. In this case, it works best for a cat or puppy smaller than the length of your forearm.
As you can see, Pet Safety Cat Casey really lives up to his name and is so wonderfully patient for his mama! Casey is a “long, lean purring machine” bigger than the cat or puppy one would ideally perform these techniques on. For larger pets, see the longer video at the end with Dr. Dan Fletcher which includes some new information from veterinarians.
Moore shares that you can learn more tips at www.petfirstaid4u.com. You can also register for an online course in Cat and Dog First Aid at The Red Cross.

Pet Safety Cat, Casey with More One-Handed CPR Techniques
Below are Moore and Casey from 2018 demonstrating one-handed cat CPR. So you can see, they’ve been doing this for quite a while! Everyone is always amazed by how patient Casey is. As we know, touching the feline’s belly is a danger zone that could result in mayhem, much less getting so cozy with their face! Be warned: we wouldn’t suggest trying this with your cat unless it’s a real emergency.
“Pet Safety Cat is pretty tolerable, but he is a cat! A conscious one tolerating this CPR technique to possibly save the lives of other cats. He is a remarkable cat!” Arden wrote.
