In February 2024, we shared an incredible story about a cruel animal testing laboratory in Nowata, Oklahoma. Rescuers shut it down and converted it into an animal oasis called Freedom Fields. Over 200 dogs and cats were saved thanks to the Beagle Freedom Project with help from ameowzing cat rescuer Nathan Kehn (Nathan the Cat Lady). His hope is that all the cats get a new, happy start to life!
It was a historic moment, saving 180 beagles and 80 cats from horrible conditions! And now the former testing facility is called Freedom Fields and will purrmanently help animals of all kinds. This is epic!!
“This has never before been accomplished. We are overjoyed that not only will we give over 200 dogs and cats their freedom and identity, but that we will also transform an animal testing facility into a place of happiness, rehabilitation, and love,” said BFP President and Founder Shannon Keith.

Recently, Nathan shared even better news: He’s about to create an oasis for cats in Nowata!
Nathan the Cat Lady’s Cat Oasis
Nathan shared the exciting news that he’s building ‘Nathan the Cat Lady’s Cat Oasis’ with long-time rescuers from Milo’s Sanctuary, also in Nowata, Oklahoma. We’ve previously shared stories about the wonderful work the sanctuary does for over 100 cats with disabilities and unique needs.
A previous visit to Milo’s sanctuary by Nathan the cat Lady:
The modular home for ongoing rescue efforts will have a foundation, water, sewer, and electricity.
“We are building a special cat sanctuary at the back called Nathan the Cat Lady’s Cat Oasis. And it’s going to be home for feral cats that have nowhere else to go,” he shared.

The cats will have access to a 30×30 catio and a new modular home thanks to donations from Easy Pet Fence and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
Nathan shared that Tito’s Vodka will match donations dollar for dollar up to $10K for the tiny home. You can find out how to donate on Milo’s Sanctuary GoFundMe. So far, about $800 has been raised with a $10 goal.
Volunteers can even come out to help Nathan, who has a construction background.
