It was a rough week for senior cat, Sammy. He was about to turn 19 years old. And he was about to become homeless. His long time owner was forced to make the decision to enter an assisted living home. But it was a senior home that did not allow the loving cat to come with him.
Which meant Sammy was forced into shelter living at the ripe old age of 18.
So he was taken in by the staff at Cincinnati Animal CARE where they immediately fell in love with him. Heartbroken by his circumstances, they vowed to find him the perfect home for the next stage of his long life. 
Upon his surrender, his devastated owner had provided all of his records. These indicated that Sammy was actually about to have a birthday on June 15th; just around the corner at the time! Which meant that there was only one thing to do.
Recently, the staff at Kitty City learned that today is senior Sammy’s 19th birthday! Naturally, we threw him a birthday party!
But there was one extra, unconventional requirement that his new family that would need to agree to.
The only rule for adopting Sammy though? You have to throw him a 20th birthday party on 6/15/22!
As his party world whirled around him, Sammy already had a special surprise waiting.
His adopter, who actually messaged us about Sammy before he became internet famous, was waiting outside before we even opened today! He is going home with a fellow senior kitty and has already been spoiled with a new hat!
Sammy’s forced surrender and subsequent happy ending adoption will always be remembered at the rescue now too.
Sammy became an instant star yesterday after celebrating his 19th birthday. Today we have converted our Colony room to be Sammy’s Senior Center. We hope Sammy’s fame helps him and his other senior buddies find homes. We are open every day 12-6pm.
