When we first heard of the sweet cat Monique, she had been celebrating her birthday party. And the friendly long-haired tabby cat had been at a shelter for over 120 days!

In hopes of finding this sweet girl a home, the good folks at Battersea shelter thought to throw her a little party this past Valentine’s Day weekend. It was in honor of her second birthday and 100th day in the shelter.

The only problem? Well, no one had the heart to show up to her party.

She was all alone, with no one wanting her.

When news quickly spread of her misfortune, little Monique grew into a viral sensation.

Lindsey Quinlan, Battersea’s head of catteries and feline welfare, told local reporters, “Over the years we’ve seen our cats appear in the media or gain fans online. But we’d never before seen anything quite like Monique’s overnight fame.”

But the shelter workers and volunteers don’t care at all about the fame of their charges. UNLESS it can help benefit the animals by finding them homes.

So when the news of her solo party went viral online, the shelter held out hope the perfect adopter would see her plight.

And that’s exactly what happened for the sweet fluffy feline!

While watching the news one evening, South Londoner Adnan, saw Monique’s face flash across the screen. Immediately he knew he and Monique belonged together, and applied to be her lucky kitty-dad.

By mid-March, she had arrived at her new home with a dedicated and loving human of her own.

“It’s been just Monique and me alone since March,” Adnan says. “She’s very talkative and greets me every morning and can be very bossy when she wants treats. She follows me around the house, pawing at me for scratches and giving me headbutts for cuddles.”

“She was initially keen to jump in my lap (which was interesting when I was working). But has now decided that her many napping spots are much more comfortable and will instead summon me for scratches.”

It seems that there were quite a few people willing to give her a home, so much so that they STILL receive inquiries about her. Hopefully that will lead to other adoptions and NO animals will have a party that leaves them feeling less than worthy.
