If you love superhero movies based on comics, you are likely a fan of the Marvel series. Newer movies like Ant-Man and The Wasp and Black Panther have introduced an exciting range of lesser known characters that have won over the masses. Overcoming hardships in the face of danger is a staple in the making of a superhero. And these heroic role models have monikers that have quickly become names for our beloved pets. Many animals have come from the streets as strays or neglectful situations. These are the brave souls that learn to fight, and love, against all odds.

Their superhero stories need to be told to inspire others; like little Wasp, a miniature kitten who had to fight just to survive.

It was early 2021 when Amber Spencer, a foster with Perth Rescue Angels in Australia, crossed paths with a litter of desperate kittens. She had been at her veterinarians office to say good-bye to her 20-year-old foster cat.

“My sweet girl Nancy is the only reason I met them that day. I decided I had to take them,” Amber shared with Love Meow. “The kittens came in from a less than ideal home through one of our local rangers.”

Amongst the surviving kittens, Wasp, a Siamese mix, was the tiniest of the bunch. She was severely dehydrated, anemic and emaciated. Despite all the odds stacked up against her, she was hanging in with all her might.

When Amber brought her new fosters home, they were estimated to be around 6 weeks of age. But they were only the size of one-week-old’s!

Amber named the kittens after a range of excellent Marvel characters; Wasp, Wanda, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye and Hulk. Little did she know the battle was just beginning. Nothing about helping these kittens grow was going to be easy.

“Three days after I picked them up, I spent the entire day at our vet clinic stabilizing them and monitoring them with the help of the fantastic team at Best Friends Family Vet,” Amber told Love Meow. “Wasp had a hard time making gains due to a host of health issues. It became clear that she would need one-on-one intensive care. The little warrior kitty continued to try to get better with every ounce of strength that she had.”

Amber, a superhero herself, never gave up on little Wasp though. She would shower the kitten with praise and love at each successful feeding. The midnight hour wouldn’t stop her from giving her all to this fragile little soul.

We all know good things happen when superhero’s get together.

Before long, Wasp looked up at her foster mom with full cheeks, bright eyes and a playful potato-shaped kitten belly.

Wasp had successfully gained the much needed weight kittens need to survive. She had caught up to her super-siblings and was ready to jump into her next mission. She was ready for adoption and made her way to the shelter.

One day, when a veterinarian named Nicole was visiting her friend at the rescue, she noticed she was being watched.

Little Wasp had her eye on the woman! And there was no going back.

Wasp joined Nicole’s family not long after. Amber regularly receives happy photos of her “training” with her forever team. Looks like there is no stopping them!

Thank you to Love Meow for sharing this touching story and to Amber for being a hero to all animals!
