Seeing a helpless kitty can just break anyone’s heart. It goes without saying that if we could, we would take in every cat we find and give them a wonderful loving home. This little kitty named Fern got that chance at a loving home after her terrifying ordeal at a gas station.

A Kitten Tied Up At A Gas Station

When we visit or pass a gas station, most of us are thinking about snacks or ready to fuel up. Typically, many of us aren’t looking around at our surroundings while pumping gas. But this time, a wonderful human going by their local gas station did something many of us don’t do when we’re on a mission: look at our surroundings.

During their gas station trip, they spotted a kitty tied to a bush nearby! Sadly, the poor kitten was so tightly tied that she couldn’t move. She clung onto the branches, unable to turn or get free of her bonds. Most likely, the poor kitty got badly tangled up by the green rope as you can see in the picture above.

A small collar covered her neck, attached to that rope. The leash practically blended in with the bush, so it’s no wonder someone wouldn’t have noticed at all. This unusually observant person was at the right time and place to save this cat.

Immediately, the Good Pet Samaritan freed her from this horrible situation and carried the kitty to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. The nonprofit has its own animal hospital so she could immediately receive quality care.

Little Fern Gets A New Chance At Life

At the Humane Society, the kitten got a new name: Fern. Why Fern? It seems likely that it was inspired by her story, of being found in the bushy vegetation. But, she soon had a new name, as you will see next.

At first, Fern was scared of her rescuers and surroundings in the hospital. However, her friendly nature soon emerged and she was ravenously hungry. Left without food and water, she was much smaller than where she needed to be for her age. Right away, little Fern scooped her food up and cleaned her plate so spotless, even Garfield would be impressed!

With a little TLC and medical care, Fern was soon ready for adoption. And it didn’t take long, either.

Fern found her new family almost right away with a loving couple and their little girl. Fern now has a new name, Zelda. What a perfect name! We hope she has her own little Deku Tree to play on. (Nerd moment: You might know that’s a guardian tree in the Legend of Zelda video games.)

Christina, Zelda’s new mom, says she loves to sit on the windowsill to look at birds and squirrels outside. Welcome home to your very own Hyrule Castle, Zelda!
