The Stadium Discovery

Cats Protection Employee Alex Hartley told BBC.com: “There were over 25,000 people in the stadium, and apparently mum was just milling about under the stands while people were there, so [the club] contacted us,” he said. They all seemed to be in good health – mum had obviously been feeding them really well, because the kittens were a decent weight, [and] mum was herself a little bit skinny, but that happens regularly. Clearly the staff had been helping feed them and keep them in good nick.”![]()
The Players are Announced to their Fans
The news of the unique find quickly spread online. And the Cats Protection Mansfield Cat Center was happy to announce the names of the tiny players. The group has been dubbed ‘The City Ground Kits’.
The cats made quite the impact at the City Ground, so much so that club staff named them after multiple players.
Say hello to Danilo, Murillo, Sangaré — and the tiniest of them all, (the sole male) Big Chris Wood! The mum was named Morgan after England ace Morgan Gibbs-White, while the females of the litter were dubbed Danilo, Murillo, and Ibrahim Sangare. The cats will be made available for adoption after more medicals, micro-chipping, and neutering.
“Mum’s really friendly – the kittens are still a little bit shy, but we’re working with them,” he said to the BBC. “Obviously we get attached to all mums and kittens, but they’re definitely ones we’re going to remember.”
Thank you to the stadium staff and rescue workers for all their dedication and care given to the family. Be sure to follow Cats Protection online to see what future club is lucky enough to welcome these beautiful cats home!
