Cats are such adorable fluffy critters. They usually do hilarious things to make us laugh like when they have some funny zoomies. Or so cute we just can’t stand it when they blep their tongue or chirp eekekekekeke at the birds. But this little kitty has captured hearts across the internet with its adorable way of “protecting” its human from an open window.

The caption of the post reads, “Whenever i open the window on the first floor, and try to put my hand outside, my cat tries to protect me from falling and pushes me back.”
In a comment, they later reveal the cat’s name is Poes. When asked what the cat’s name is, they responded:
“‘Poes’, it means cat in Dutch, we were to late with giving her a name and now she only listens to that name,” stated the Reddit user.
Every time this kitty’s human tries to put his hand outside of the window, the kitty will bat his hand back and show his teeth as if to say, “I don’t think so!”
Don’t worry, human! I shall protect you!
Does anyone else think the cat’s thinking, “No hooman, I’d easily survive falling out the window and land on my paws. On the other hand, you’d make a mess of things and hurt yourself.”
Reddit went wild over the video and this is what a few people had to say:
“This is more proof that cats think of humans as just big stupid cats,” said Reddit user topdangle.
“The warning ‘bites.’ This kitty loves their owner and I am here for it always,” said User the_village_bicycle.
“My cat would yeet [slang for throw] himself out that window. He once rolled off the deck onto a glass patio table below, shattered it, and just got up and walked away like it was nothing 🤦🏼♀️” user thezombiejedi said.
Another user, HunyadiArpad went on to say, “‘Land on your feet idiot’- cat probably.”
“Or you’re blocking his sightlines and kill path 😁” said user Celestial8Mumps.
Cats Bond with Their Humans
Although we often associate dogs with feeling more loyalty than cats, research conducted in 2019 by Oregon State University found that cats do form bonds with their humans. They also feel secure in our presence the same way dogs and children do. Ok then, it makes sense that the kitty is a bit concerned for their human’s hand falling out the window.
According to Newsweek, Feline Training and Behavior Consultant LeeAnna Buis told them
“Cats have an amazing ability to be both complicated and simple at the same time. This is a great example. It’s possible the cat is reacting in a protective way. It could also be that this kitty is either feeling a bit overstimulated by the sights, sounds and smells she is getting through the open window or doesn’t want that hand to close the window or move her away from it.”
Well, there are certainly a lot of different reasons for the cat’s reactions. Hopefully, she wasn’t overstimulated! But for now, we’ll continue to enjoy Poes’ cute reaction to their human trying to reach out the window!
