BenBen was once considered “the saddest cat on the internet” and with his cute, squishy face and slightly downturned eyes, you might get the impression he’s a little bit sad. But you’d be wrong. Especially earlier this week when his human mom and dad got married. Where he soon became the center of attention.
BenBen Is An Adorable Wedding Guest.
And Ben’s mom Sandy Windover said the happy day was definitely a fun one for everyone — including the cute orange tabby cat who soon became the center of attention.
“Surrounded by Love, cats, and mountains, we exchanged vows; that may have included many cats puns, and became one permanent family; partners in crime and cat rescue!!” she wrote.
BenBen, who’s adorably pudgy seemed comfy in his surroundings as Sandy held him. This definitely looked like a beautiful wedding. How nice of Sandy and Adam to include their fuzzy little furchild.
BenBen’s Situation Wasn’t Always Happy.
There was indeed a good reason why he was called “the saddest cat on the internet.” It’s difficult to believe but in April 2016 cute Ben was one day away from being euthanized, GlobalNews reports. This adorable boy had been brought to the Vancouver Animal Emergency And Referral Centre by an officer from the BC SPCA. Poor little Ben was definitely in a bad way.
His little spine was badly crushed, he was full of puncture wounds, a badly mangled ear, and infected lacerations. His situation was so bad, in fact, that he could barely move. The very next morning he was taken to the BC SPCA hospital, where he spent the next 10 days.
Loads of people wanted to adopt him during his stay at the BC SPCA. But this fell through when they found out how serious his medical problems were. He was deemed unadoptable and scheduled for euthanasia on May 1.
Then Sandy Stepped In.
She worked as a veterinary technician at the Vancouver ER Animal Centre and had met BenBen previously. So she messaged Adam to see if she could bring this sweet kitty home and he agreed. Now his situation was going to become decidedly better. But when Sandy first brought him home she and Adam thought he might not ever be able to walk.
That, however, wasn’t what Ben thought.
His first steps were stiff, wobbly, and shaky but that didn’t stop him.
“We had to line our place with Yoga mats so he could walk without falling over,” she said. It wasn’t long, however, before he was running and jumping in true kitty cat style.
With his winsome good looks and his inspiring story, BenBen has become a huge hit on the internet.
He has more than 638,000 followers on Instagram and 328,000 on Facebook. His popularity has come as a bit of a shock to his human parents.
“We had a feeling that he might get a little bit of attention but we didn’t expect this,” Adam Tutt said.
Now Sandy and Adam are dedicated to helping other wonderful kitties like BenBen. In 2016 they set up a GoFundMe to raise money for other animals at the BC SPCA.
“Unfortunately, the BC SPCA don’t have a lot of funding to help strays that come through their building,” Sandy said. “So we thought we could help other cats just like BenBen.”
The GoFundMe campaign was quite successful. The goal was to raise $5,000 but it went well over that, all the way up to more than $14,000!
His inspirational story reminds us why we love cats and do what we can to help them.
And there are so many kitties just like him and they all deserve love and care.
BenBen came from the direst straits and he has a mom and dad who love him dearly. He’s also got adorable brofurs and sisfurs to play with. Now with all that cuteness, you KNOW his heart is happy!
