Swoop the friendly cat was likely dumped at a cat colony in Philly. But fortunately, kind rescuers swooped in to save him just in time.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is known as the City of Brotherly Love. But it’s also home to some wonderful cats and cat rescuers. One group called Kolony Kats shares the stories of caring for cats who prefer to live a life outside. They generally prefer to be fed and then left alone. With TNR (trap, neuter, return) efforts, and someone to watch over them, these street-wise cats live their best lives.

“Just feed us and leave! 😹😹”

Swoop There It Is!

Frequently, the cats that appear around the colony are very people-friendly. Given a chance, they make amazing companions. That brings us to the story of Swoop.

“Hold on can you get my good side?”

One day while doing their civic kitty duties, Kolony Kats found a new friend roaming the neighborhood. He wasn’t familiar-looking with the normal stray cat crowd they care for. How did they find him?

This baby spent over twenty-four hours under a parked car for shelter when the rescuers spotted him. But a kitty named Koffee Kake, whom they care for, technically found him first.

“Koffee Kake is usually camera shy, but she allowed the paparazzi to snap a picture of her today! 🐈‍⬛📸,” they shared.

Koffee Kake probably thought “hey, I don’t know you, you aren’t part of our family, so I don’t think you belong here.” Well, this little guy must have seen Koffee coming after him and ran out into the street. Unfortunately, the street was filled with cars, and our not-so-street savvy feline was almost hit a couple of times.

Kolony Cats To The Rescue!

Kolony Kats quickly realized this floof was not a stray when they saw Koffee Kake chasing him. His close-call with the road was a yellow flag that he was no street-wise kitty. No, this little guy went right towards the cars instead of trying to avoid them. That’s when the rescuers grabbed him off the street before he could get hurt and immediately took him in.

He was openly appreciative of their efforts.

“Oh thank you so much! You may pet the belly.”

Since it was obvious he wasn’t a stray due to his demeanor, it was time to try and find his owners. Kolony Kats searched the surrounding area and knocked on doors. But no one seemed to know the kitty or claim him as theirs. With no one claiming him, they suspected that the poor baby was dumped near their property.

“We believe he was dumped here by someone who knows we feed and care for cats. We scooped him up, well more like he walked right into the carrier relieved that he was finally safe!”

It’s possible Swoop’s prior family didn’t think they could afford the veterinary care he needed, as we’ll see next. But it’s never a good idea to dump a pet. Anyway, it sounds like the cat knew he’d be safe as soon as he met his rescuers. He was a lucky cat, indeed.

The organization decided to name him Swoop. That certainly seems like a fitting name for a cat from Philly. Why’s that? Well, Swoop is the name of the Philadelphia Eagles’ mascot!

The actual mascot shows a tough exterior, but he’s really a big sofie for his fans and the players on the inside. Just like his namesake, this Swoop seems feisty on the outside when you first meet him, but inside he’s a total cuddle muffin. He loves to be picked up and coddled like a baby in a human’s arms. He even reaches up to give hugs! However, it would be a while until he got to hug and cuddle any new humans coming to adopt him.

Swoop Heads To The Cat Doctor!

So what happened to Swoop? When Kolony Kats was able to finally check him over, they noticed a few issues. They saw he was having trouble chewing his food. His teeth were not in the best shape.

“Not bad…not bad. This is nice.”

Swoop went for an all-expenses paid (thanks to donations) vacation to The Cat Doctor nearby in the city. He needed some pretty severe dental work and checked out for any diseases. Luckily, he got a clean bill of health and the dental work he needed. Swoop had twelve teeth extracted, but we bet that tasty wet food will be easier on his gums and teeth. Now he’s all healed up and healthy, ready for his new forever home! This sweet fella will make a purrfect addition to anyone’s home.

Stories like this is why rescued is our favorite breed of kitty. The Philadelphia rescuers have helped numerous kitties like Swoop, as you can see below. Follow on Facebook and Instagram to help support their ongoing efforts.
