It’s unfortunate how many rescue stories begin with a kitten in a storm drain. Sometimes these are dry as a bone and make a safe haven for stray and feral felines. Until water rushes in after a powerful storm and everything within the cavern is flushed out. But one thing doesn’t happen often during these rescues. It’s rare to see video of the actual moment the life is pulled from the concrete prison.

Texas firefighters flushed a young kitten out of a storm drain, catching her in a split-second’s time!

Comment on @GeorgetownTXFire post with another litter in the same area

On the evening of September 14th, 2020, the Georgetown Texas Fire Department received an urgent call. Residents in the Teravista Subdivision had discovered a kitten crying from a neighborhood storm drain. Sadly, it’s not the first stray kittens that have been seen in the area. Hopefully now though, a TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) project will be devised.

Night had fallen though and this kitten was running out of time.

The heroes from Engine 1, Truck 1, and Battalion Chief 1 were the experienced rescuers sent to the kittens aid. It’s the times like this that we should remember they are dedicated to more than just putting out fires!

They removed the storm drain cover and formulated the best plan to locate the terrified kitten. Thankfully the rescue efforts were all captured on camera.

You can see the steady fireman waiting and hoping what is flushed out doesn’t elude them.

It took about two and a half hours before they were successful.

After air monitoring and multiple attempts with other devices, they resulted to flushing the kitten with a controlled water source and catching it with a net.

Fireman Crossland was one of the lucky ducks in the steady current. And it looks like the extremely grateful kitten still needs to work on his public displays of affection. The heroes at least are able to laugh it off. I mean getting a love bite from a stray cat is how they say thank you. That’s just the way of the world.

Finally the soaking wet kitten was safe in their hands. They made sure there were no injuries to the fortunate animal and all looked good. Angry and wet, but not hurt.

It turned out to be a young grey and white male kitten. Who may or may not have been intimidated by this spectacular mustache…

Within the crowd of onlookers and supporters gathered, one family welcomed the survivor into their home for the night.

The next morning the plan would be to bring him to a local animal rescue as soon as they opened. Unfortunately, I couldn’t confirm any further details regarding the rescue which leads me to a hopeful thought.

What if the wonderful citizen decided to adopt the kitten into their own family?! We’ll certainly keep an eye out for any responses to possibly finding out!

The department happily shared the tense rescue on their social media pages. Please be sure to visit them to thank them from all the animal lovers of the world!

REMEMBER: SPAY/NEUTER, FOSTER, VOLUNTEER, TNR & AS ALWAYS, ADOPT, DON’T SHOP!
