Just another day for the brave firemen and women at the Delray Beach Fire Department. But for one stray kitten stuck in a storm drain, her day wasn’t going so well. As soon as the team received the urgent call to help, they rushed off to try to save the day. However, upon arriving at the scene they learned that they would have to be very creative to get this kitten out of danger.

And for the Delray Beach FD, being a coastal Florida town, water is always on their minds.

It began when a woman heard meowing coming from a drainpipe on Congress Avenue. She called 911 right away and the lifesaving heroes were called into action.

When they got to the scene, they could hear a kitten calling desperately from about 6 feet underground. But how would they reach the kitten?! It was just out of their reach so this is when the creative problem solving began.

What can you do that won’t hurt the scared, trapped kitten? The last thing anyone wants is for an animal in need to panic and hurt themselves. The solution was all around them.

Delray Beach Fireman Jason Moran climbed into the storm drain and they flushed the kitten towards him with water!

He was able to move the tiny kitten close enough to grab her and emerged with the rescued, and very wet, little girl!

Thankfully they didn’t see any wounds or injuries on the tiny gray tabby.

They made sure to check for any other stray kittens but happily, there were no more hiding in the corners of the storm drain.

The sweet little girl was taken to the Palm Beach County Animal Control, where I hope an adopter will be “flushed out” and come for her asap.

If you are interested in adopting her, her ID is A2014490. Although I do not see her on their available cats yet, she may be in a holding period still.

One thing is for sure though, the Delray Beach Fire Department is full of heroes that obviously will go the extra distance to save a life!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED!

REMEMBER: SPAY/NEUTER, FOSTER, VOLUNTEER, TNR & AS ALWAYS, ADOPT, DON’T SHOP!
