When springtime comes, it brings so many wonderful things: birds start singing, flowers start blooming, bees start buzzing. Nature returns in the brightest shades of color after months of bleak weather. Easter arrives, and with it, all the whimsical things we love, like colored eggs, chocolate bunnies, and Peeps, those adorable pastel marshmallows.
For cat rescuers, springtime is also a loaded subject, overflowing with thousands of tiny kittens needing rescue. As cute as they are, it’s always an exhausting challenge in the extreme. But some of our favorite peeps in Crystal Lake, IL, took a paws to celebrate – with candy Peeps!

Cat Rescue Transformed with Peeps
For the 10th annual Peeps diorama contest at the local library, Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc. created an ameowzing entry! The rescue’s head of medical, Diane, transformed the kitty rescue after some brainstorming.

As you can see, each one has tiny whiskers attached. In their feline form, these Peeps enjoy Purina Cat Chow.
“Not only does our head of medical, Di, take care good of our cats but she’s pretty dang good with peeps too!” Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc. shared.
There are Peeps napping in cat caves, and playing with toys (It’s ok for Peeps to play with balls of yarn, although we don’t recommend it for real kitties.).
A focal point of the entry is the giant cat tree/scratching post topped by a fun fish.
Many folks love the hilarious Peep litter box that could use some cleaning!
There’s also a yellow Peep kitty peeping from a yellow carrier, and snuggling with a blue blankie. If they want to play, there’s a crackle toy for their amewsment.
Nearby, one of the cats is luring a friend with a toy on a string. What’s going on here? Whatever it is, it’s fun!
Everywhere you look, there’s a Peep enjoying the view.
Peeper’s Choice Awards
The Peeps Diorama Contest has been a tradition at the library for over ten years. Past winners of the ‘Peeper’s Choice Award’ have been super creative, such as these entries from over the years.

Springtime is the right time if you’re considering getting involved with fostering kittens. Contact a local rescue or shelter near you to find out how you can help in many ways. Helping out even a peep helps rescues save more lives.
For those in the Northern Illinois area, you can find out more on Facebook and Instagram. Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc’s website shows many furbabies seeking homes and has information on how to volunteer, foster, or donate.
And Happy Easter from Cole and Marmalade!
