What’s a normal news day in animal rescue? There’s no such thing! As we see daily, you never know what to expect, and that’s true for this cute story of ‘Breaking Mews’ at a busy Tampa newsroom.
Breaking Mews in a Tampa Newsroom
Like animal rescues and shelters, a news station is always a hectic place. Nevertheless, the ameowzing staff at 10 Tampa Bay went out of their way to help a pregnant cat taking refuge in their parking lot.
Suncoast Animal League shared that the newsroom staff tried for weeks to catch the small cat, possibly a kitten herself, lingering around the building. They finally used slices of Turkey meat to lure her close enough to make a catch. It worked, and they brought her into the newsroom in a carrier.
The relieved staff sent a text to the rescuers:
“We got her!!! She’s in a carrier in the Newsroom.”

Special Delivery On the Way
Wonderfully, one of the news staff’s daughters agreed to transport the young mama kitty to the shelter, coming from across the bay in St. Petersburg. On the drive, she discovered a special delivery inside the carrier.
“As the daughter of one of the news staff made her way from St. Pete to our shelter, she heard noises from the carrier. At a stop light, she peeked in, and sure enough, the small cat (just a kitten herself) had given birth to one tiny kitten,” Suncoast shared.

The Tiniest Meow was a Big Relief
As a new mama cat in a scary situation, she wasn’t sure what to do and didn’t clean the newborn kitten. He was quiet, wet, and cold, and the mama didn’t cut the umbilical cord either. As soon as the duo arrived, the rescuers sprang into action to get him warmed up and heard the “tiniest meow.”
“After a few minutes, [he] finally let out the tiniest of meows, and we let out a sigh of relief,” the rescuers explained.
After being taken to a foster home, the mama cat felt secure and safe and her instincts kicked in. Thankfully, she started caring for the little boy. But she also gave birth to two more kittens, one of which was stillborn. It’s unfortunately very common for cats to lose kittens when they’re really just kittens themselves.
But the newborn kitten has captivated everyone on social media. And, the rescuers have received many suggestions from followers for a suitable name.

Which one do you like best?
Everyone went out of their way to ensure these kitties can live a happy life. Meanwhile, they’re watching to see if the mama will give birth to more babies in her loving foster home. But they’re among many cats this one rescue has saved in just a few days, including two large groups from two unusual hoarding cases.
“Our cat team had another busy day today with our 2nd hoarder case in two days. It’s a bit unusual for us to have two hoarder cases back to back like this, but really, what’s ‘normal’ in animal rescue anyway? 🐈” they asked.
