Ikea, a sweet cat with beautiful green eyes, earned her name when she walked into a Chicago-area furniture store. She was shopping alright, but instead of seeking home furnishings, she wanted the best refuge for her babies, which were due at any moment.
One look at Ikea told everyone that she was heavily pregnant and about to pop!
Later, rescuers dubbed her litter the Swedish Meatballs, after the tasty treats served in the store.
After Ikea went shopping, rescuers from Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc. responded to the call. Consequently, the kitty got a big upgrade on the shelter she needed, going to a caring foster home. There, she would be safe and have all the nutrition she needed to nurse her babies.
“Welcome Ikea! 💕💕💕This little lady is going to give birth soon. We were told she walked into a furniture store. Tonight, she is tucked in safe and sound in her foster home. Huge THANK YOU to Adrienne and family for stepping up to help us help her!” shared Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc.
Ikea Gives Birth to Identical Boys
Just two days after arriving in her foster home, Ikea gave birth to identical buff male kittens/Swedish Meatballs.
“Welcome to the world, babies! Ikea and kittens are doing well🧡! This is why we need fosters.”
Ikea’s foster family enjoyed watching the little felines enter the world, surrounded with everything they needed.
Of course, the kittens received Swedish names: Bjorn, Lars, Hanns, and Sven. After growing up in a loving home, they all reached the milestone of neutering and then finding forever homes by summertime.
Who wouldn’t scoop up these adorable meatballs? It wasn’t long before they were adopted and and went out to the world in bonded pairs.
Ikea Shops for Her Furever Home
Ikea was the most ” tolerant yet protective, loving mama” to her Swedish Meatballs. But her days of making kittens were over, and it was time to start shopping for her own new life.
She had so much to offer a family. She’s cuddly, silky soft, and has the prettiest green eyes, edged with white.
“She is quiet with an occasional trill/howl session, loves pets, and occasionally rolls and plays with her cat nip toys and absolutely loves the laser light action,” the rescuers shared.
After Ikea’s rescuers helped her shop for a home for a month, her day came at last! She was going home where she could be as carefree and happy as her babies. Her foster mom had “tears of joy” at seeing the news.
“CONGRATS to Ikea! This young kitty who walked into a furniture store ready to give birth… walked right into her new family’s heart today. She finally gets to be herself and be loved! Thank you for giving her the forever home she deserves! ❤️🏠❤️ Thank you to her foster family for stepping up in just the nick of time to help her💞”

Mama cats like Ikea go to great lengths to find shelter for their litter. They will sneak into buildings, hide inside an airplane, and make themselves at home on your porch. They will also crawl inside car engines, so be sure to knock on the hood before starting the car, particularly during kitten season.
