King Simon was just a little 3-month-old prince when he arrived at Morris Animal Refuge back in May of 2010. He was rescued with his mom Lilly and four little sisters and brothers, all who found forever homes. The adorable ginger and white kitten was quickly scooped up and adopted too. Flash forward to July 9th 2018 though, and an 8-year-old Simon is returned to the shelter. At no fault of his own, they explained it was due to “life changes”, in this case, a new baby.

Now the returned King Simon has been back in the shelter for over 225 days waiting to be adopted again!!!
The super fluffy, 7-pound stud is still looking for his fur-ever home. Since he is nicely set in his ways, you know exactly what you’re getting with King Simon–as with many other older felines. No crazy kitten zoomies every night (hopefully)!

He has been reported to be a bit shy at first, but with what he’s gone through at his age, it’s not surprising. You’re with a family almost your whole life and then have to leave? It’s heartbreaking. We’re happy that he was returned to the same shelter instead of thrown out on the streets though.

However…at some point throughout the years, they had him declawed on his front 2 paws. =( You can see what he thinks of that decision here.

He’s not having any issues with them but this was done against Morris Animal Refuge’s policies. It may be a good thing that King Simon has the opportunity to start over elsewhere. I’d hate to think what may have happened if he’d gotten issues later in life!
Once he accepts you though, he’s a happy and loyal companion.

It just takes the right person to give him the time to settle without thinking he’s not affectionate. He IS a King right? So we need to earn his loyalty by showing him respect =) That, and providing his food and treats may win him over a bit faster.

The shelter thinks he’d do best in a home as a solo cat. He deserves some special one-on-one attention and will happily return your love ten-fold.
Simon needs some time to warm up to strangers, but once he does you have a friend for life. Don’t we all deserve a second chance? Be his. Adopt!

The shelter love their returned buddy, but want to get his “tale” out to the public–no matter how it’s done. You can see the clever and silly way they took advantage of the recent Superbowl to do so.
But they’re sure to remind everyone…WHEN you adopt him, you can change his name or refer to him as it should be–“Your Furry Highness”.

Well that didn’t take long! It was only about a week later that “Simon’s forever family found him and his next adventure began. CONGRATS to them all!

I lost my declared male cat in Oct 18. We would love to have this senior join my other cat ,female long haired tuxedo.
Has King Simon been adopted yet? If not, where is he? It looks like he may be in Louisiana which isn’t too far from me. I would need to talk to my husband, but could probably convince him to let me bring him home with our other two female rescues. (ages 8 & 11)
This is in PA, but also it says they are looking to place him in a home as a solo cat. I’m sure your local shelters have some senior kitties that would love friends though! =)

Also there are volunteer organizations that will transport cats in the US … eg Imagine Home. Don’t let distance be a deterrent!
I hope this sweet boy finds a forever home. It makes me sick that someone could dump him back at the shelter b/c of a baby. I know it’s a good thing they brought him back to the shelter instead of throwing him on the streets but I still think it’s a lame excuse and I hope those people will never adopt another cat again.
Never ever let those people own another pet. They clearly don’t understand responsibility. ?
Stupid reason 2 give up a cat…..which will not hurt a baby. How sad n mean. De clawing is a crime.

Simon wouldn’t hurt the baby. His former owners were cruel inntwo ways. First , they declawed him which is not needed (it’s like cutting off your fingers at the knuckle) and then they discard him like a used piece of tissue! How someone adopts him soon. He’s very handsome.
I have 8 yr old female kitty. Will this boy like her? We have a kitty door too, My kitty hangs out in back yard but never leaves.
We were adopted by a 9 year old kitty named Cinder who looks a lot like King Simon. Don’t be afraid to take these guys in. Ours was a bit shy at first as well, spent 6 months in the shelter and is now my furever cuddle buddy. Give him a chance. It’s worth it!
So heartbreaking animals are not toys you dnt just play with them and when your done get rid of them.. My fur babies are extended family and we dont get ( rid ) of family..we have 5 fur babies sam (dog) olaf ( dog) tator tot ( cat) mark ( cat) tink ( cat)….
I hope King has found his furever home by now. My Sophie (aka “the Princess”) was surrendered to a shelter after her people had her 13 yrs; excuse (un, reason?) was they had a new baby. After 1 1/2 yrs we’re still getting to know each other. Part of me is sad for her past; part of me is happy she’s with me. I did, & am, giving her the time & space she needs to adapt to her new life. Seniors are the best!

Why do so many people dump pets because of a baby? Pets can be socialized and get used to children, and often become furry guardians. Though hearing they had him declawed says much about their priorities anyway. I hope they never get another animal!
The lack of responsibility in some people just infuriates me! People need to understand that when they bring an animal into their life that they become the GUARDIAN (not owner) of that animal. As such, they become responsible for the health, happiness, and well-being of that animal for the remainder of their life! Animals are not rubbish to be discarded when it becomes too expensive or inconvenient! Thankfully, many organizations who do animal adoptions are beginning to ask if an individual has ever surrendered an animal in the past and hopefully this will prevent people like these unconscionable idiots from ever having an animal again.
