Be a Part of the Remember Me Thursday Awareness Movement
It’s still hard for me to comprehend the fact that millions of healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in animal shelters each year. Thursday, September 24th, 2015 is a day when pet-lovers and animal welfare organizations around the globe come together and light a candle (literally or virtually) to honor the millions of pets who lose their lives without the benefit of a loving home and shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption.
Share your opt-to-adopt moment right now. Every tweet, post, or text matters because every pet matters! Use and follow #LightForPets: www.remembermethursday.org
It’s difficult to grasp the magnitude of this problem when all you see are a few words on a website… The word MILLIONS doesn’t really have the impact it should, but I’m sure there are many shelter staff and volunteers around the world who could tell you stories of horror and heartbreak they’ve had to endure when dealing with overcrowding at shelters or animal control facilities.
It must be extremely tough to have to help euthanize animals on a daily basis just because their time is up and you need to make room for new arrivals, especially when these cats and dogs are healthy and just want to be loved. I created this short video to get the message across without the use of disturbing footage in the hopes that more people would watch, share and educate others…

Seeing animals in shelters desperately in need of homes is what motivates me to continue to help educate about adoption and perhaps more importantly spaying and neutering their pets…
So purr-lease take a moment today to show your support for the millions of animals in need of a home and the millions of others who unfortunately never found theirs… #LightForPets
We Currently have 5 cats (We’ve had at most 7).
All of our cats are spayed/neutered. None of them realized something was “lost”. They live/lived good lives.
Thanks for being a responsible cat servant 🙂 … Cole and Marm don’t miss their trouble nuggets!
well said….and sometimes the images make more of an impact than words ever could
Thank you, I agree
Wonderful post for that special day ! Purrs

Back in 2008, my fur sister used to be a homeless cat. Both her and her mom were living under a palm tree for three weeks when the previous owner abandoned them. Two of the security officers at my mom’s previous job were going to take Midnight and her mom to a no-kill shelter. My mom noticed the look of sadness in Midnight’s green eyes, and decided to take her home. When I first met her, she jumped out of the box, and hid behind the washer and dryer. Although it took Midnight a very long time to trust us, she became a part of our family.
Midnight will be turning seven on Tuesday, October 20th. I’m thankful that my mom rescued her, and gave her a second chance. Unfortunately, a lot of animals aren’t so lucky.
I’m praying that all of the animals will get adopted, and welcomed into a new and permanent home.
So glad Midnight found her human, thanks so much for rescuing her and providing her with a great home… Happy Birthday Midnight! 🙂
Fantastic article and great videos! I saw the candle in the picture and just had to mention to all the pet lovers that the use of candles is very poisonous to the lungs of cats, dogs, birds and people. The smaller the animal the worse it is. All candles are very toxic! The wax and the chemicals in the wax go into the air they breath, especially scented candles, and many pets become very ill over time. There isn’t anything you can do about it once it is in the lungs. Just google .. Are candles safe for cats? There is lots of scientific proof they aren’t. All candles, (including bees wax I’ve read), are a killer and after one of mine died of a rapid brain cancer I googled it and was shocked at what I learned. I love my pets more than my candles! Ignorance is not really bliss if you or your pets becomes sick! Sorry for the bad news. I really love your wonderful web site, the videos and the sweet cats!
Hey Kat, yes another household item that has the potential to do harm, thanks for the comment.
I love cats… i am mexican, no speak englis. Me encantaron Cole and Mermeland, son lindos y simpáticos. Quiero que sepan que toda mi vida he adoptado gatitos de la calle…. han sido muchos que no puedo contar. Actualmente tengo 6 y un pequeñito de 2 semanas. Ellos son mi alegría.
