It’s always the right day to consider adopting from a shelter, but by late summer, it’s a purrr-ticularly great idea. For one thing, shelters and rescues everywhere are at capacity. But you might also find lower adoption fees thanks to donations and sponsors. How about a two-for-one deal? As we always say, adopting a bonded duo is almost always the best plan. That’s what one cat mom Vanessa found out after adopting a cute black and white kitten duo from her local shelter.
Black and White Duo is ‘Highly, Highly Recommended!’
Like many folks, author Vanessa Chatterley probably didn’t plan on adopting more than one cat from the shelter. After all, she and her husband already have three cute cats at home: Kit Kat, Henry, and Rory.

Yet when Vanessa discovered that the kitten she had in mind had a closely bonded buddy, that was it! At that moment, she adopted both Simon (white) and Wesley (black), such purrfect compliments to one another. And we love looking at the cute pictures and videos of them together!
Just as with people, having a friend by your side makes everything better.
In the video below, check out all the things that Simon and Wesley did on their first day home. While it can take three months for kittens to feel at home, this duo helped one another make the transition easier.

Online, many people also recommended adopting a bonded duo, whatever their ages or fur colors. What matters is the loving bond they share.
“Always best to adopt cats in twos, especially bonded pairs! It helps them so much to have each other for playing, grooming each other, to keep from being lonely, and they learn so much from each other. ❤️” said Sharon S.
Learning to Cat Isn’t Always Black and White
If you should adopt kittens, you can expect some wild antics. Often, kittens that arrive in shelters don’t get to experience any carefree kitten life, and they may have lost their mothers, too. As such, they may need longer to figure out “how to cat.” Having their buddy along with them helps them figure out the basics.
And since Simon and Wesley also have older cat siblings in the home, they will learn valuable life lessons from them, too. For instance, Wesley was very impressed with his brother Henry’s plush pink cat bed. For a little while, Henry accepted this intrusion – with encouragement!
