Last year, Ashley’s Kitten Academy took in a closely bonded mother/son duo named Scarlet and Scout around Easter. Seattle rescuer Ashley Morrison, known as “Youngest Old Cat Lady,” has a large following and shares extraordinary photos and content of her little furbabies.
We previously shared the story of Scarlet and Scout, and the kitten was only a few days old when he arrived alone with his mama, ready to be “spoiled” with attention. Everyone loved seeing their close bond, best of friends doing everything together.
Kitten Helps Bring Shy Mama Out of Her Shell
While Scarlet was shy, her outgoing kitten was the perfect compliment.
“Scarlet and Scout are the best of friends,” Scarlet is a young girl, around 2 years old, who loves to be petted, play with her toys and cuddle with her baby. Scout is an outgoing, crazy kitten who helps bring Scarlet out of her shell.”
“Walked in on the cutest hammock hang out of all time.”
Little Scout was protective of his shy green-eyed mama.
“You wanna talk to my mom? You gotta come through me” -Scout.
“These photos crack me up lol Scout was feeling extra sleepy when we got home from the vet. Lots of yawns before settling in for some more nursing.”
One day, Ashley announced that Scarlet and Scout found a forever home together, a relief for all. Everyone wanted to see them stay together forever, especially their foster mom.
“I miss these two but am so happy they are in their forever home,” she posted in May, 2021.
Scarlet and Scout Returned to Shelter
In mid-July, Ashley shared that she was sad to learn that their previous adopter had returned them to their local shelter without contacting her. Amazingly, one of her social media followers spotted them and contacted Ashley.
Now, she reached out to her followers to adopt the duo from the shelter so they could stay together. Importantly, she didn’t want to shame the previous adopter. We don’t know the circumstances.
“I will never shame an adopter for having to return cats. That’s why it is in our contract that you must reach out to me first, and if I can, I will take them back,” she explained. “Scarlet and Scout were always so bonded, and while I don’t have the space to take them back (don’t worry, I was promised it’s an awesome shelter and they are safe!) I would love for them to be adopted out together again.”
Hopefully, someone would come through and adopt the two together, everyone hoped, but especially their foster mom.
“Please…know that if your cats and kittens came from foster homes or rescues, we put our hearts and soul into these animals and would do anything to help them. I currently can’t take more in with a [panleukopenia] scare, and almost every kitten in my care on meds. Please spread the word that they are looking for a home,” she requested.
A Fan Adopts Them Together
Not long afterward, Ashley says the two found a new home together in a wonderful update. Once again, her followers came through and adopted the unique pair.
“Ok, guys- we can all calm down!!! Long-time followers who watched Scarlet and Scout grow up drove first thing this morning from Seattle to get them TOGETHER at Kitsap Humane today. I just spoke with someone at the Humane Society who said they were currently being adopted. I am so thankful they will stay together.
Compassionately, she said, “Please remember to keep comments positive. While I understand the previous adopter should have contacted me, the important part is we did find them, and they are now safe and together. I’m sure the new adopters will reach out. So thankful ❤️.”
It’s a wonderful outcome for everyone who watched these two grow up and helped support their journey. Some even purchased cute merchandise with Scarlet and Scout designs. It was the fan’s interest that led to the two finding another home. Now, Ashley says she’ll share more pictures once the kitties settle in their new home.
“Scarlets frightened (poor girl has always been shy) but Scout was a purr machine and ready to go home. Their adopter followed their journey growing up and I’m so happy they’ll stay together.”
And everyone was thrilled. To see more, you can follow Ashley Morrison on Instagram and Facebook.
