There’s no end of things to do for cat lovers in California. Right before attending the ninth annual CatCon Worldwide, Nathan the Cat Lady attended a mind-blowing Halloween celebration called Midsummer Scream. What does this have to do with cats? As it turns out, the convention for haunted houses and all things spooky is the purrfect time to help many cats find homes, too!
“🧡🖤Kitten Rescue at Midsummer Scream! 🖤🧡 What goes together better than Cats and Halloween and Horror? 🎃 We think there’s nothing better, so once again, Kitten Rescue will have a magical ROOM FULL of cats and kittens ready to meet you at the 🐈⬛BLACK CAT LOUNGE🐈⬛this weekend. WE ARE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!” shared Kitten Rescue LA.
Midsummer Scream and Black Cat Lounge
The world’s largest Halloween convention returned to the Long Beach Convention Center on July 26-28 with a record sold-out attendance of over 50,000 people! It’s been going on since 2016, but people can’t get enough, arriving in the most elaborate costumes you’ve ever seen.
The classic Halloween black cat has long been an image of Midsummer Scream.
The Halloween convention has a lot of crossover with folks who love Comic-Con, which happened at the same time this year. And, it also has crossover with cat lovers!
For the second year in a row, Nathan the Cat Lady was there at the Black Cat Lounge. Inside the convention center, people lined up to meet adoptable cats from Kitten Rescue LA.
It was so much fun that Nathan says he expects to return next year.
“Not only were we getting cats adopted thanks to Kitten Rescue LA, but there was also an amazing after-party where everyone in costume just danced,” Nathan shared.

Endorsed By The Cat From Pet Sematary
The Black Cat Lounge got an ameowzing endorsement this year from Church the Cat from the Pet Sematary classic horror movies.
“The Black Cat Lounge is returning to Midsummer Scream this year with an amazing endorsement: it’s officially approved by Church the Cat, the star of Paramount Pictures ‘Pet Sematary!'” shared Midsummer Scream.
In between checking out the incredible haunted houses, Nathan played host inside the lounge.
Last Year’s Spooky ‘Black Cat Lounge’
Last year, Nathan and the Black Cat Lounge helped find at least 18 kittens’ homes. What a fun story for folks to tell about their first day meeting a furry family member at Midsummer Scream!
One of the kittens was Jamie Lee Purr-Hiss.
Once more, there was a huge line of people for the Black Cat Lounge. One of the attendees inside was dressed as Michael Myers, another star from the Halloween movies. In real life, the actor who played the iconic horror character has a black cat named Michael Meowers!
Inside the Black Cat Lounge, people in costumes cuddled with adoptable cats of all kinds, and not just black kitties. What a spooktacular event to help all the ghouls, goblins, and witches find their feline familiars. It’s all at the peak of summer when kitten season is also at its scariest!
