It always takes “all paws on deck” at rescues when spring Kitten Season arrives. This year, it’s unusually warm and so it’s arrived earlier in many parts of the country. In warmer states, kittens may need rescuing at any time of year. But then, there’s always the unexpected to take things up a notch!
For instance, it’s not unusual for rescues to be suddenly hit with a hoarding case. When that happens, it really takes a village to save cats in time.
All Paws on Deck for 100 Cat and Kittens
Recently, San Diego rescuers from Love Your Feral Felines took on a humongous challenge when about 100 cats and kittens suddenly needed help. All the cats were living in “challenging conditions,” but things would go from bad to worse if they didn’t take them within a week and a half!
Beyond that small window, the cats would end up in an already overcrowded shelter. You can guess what would probably happen next.
“Animal rescue has given rescue groups a narrow window of opportunity – just a week and a half – to move these kitties to safety before they’re taken to the shelter. The local shelter does not have the resources to accommodate a case this large right now and their future will be very uncertain if they don’t get into rescue. 😿” the rescue shared.

What’s more, the cats were of all ages, from older adults to mama cats with 4-week-old kittens. As with many similar cases, many cats required immediate medical care. From the looks of it, many had lost their eyesight or had what looked like advanced eye infections.
Regardless of the challenges, the rescuers heroically wouldn’t give up.
“Together, with the help of other rescues, we will do all we can to ensure that every one of these deserving animals gets the opportunity to have the life they deserve,” LYFF said.

A ‘Phenomenal’ Outpouring of Hope and Healing
After a “phenomenal” outpouring of support, the rescuers saved the day for the 100 cats and kittens. But then, they needed volunteer foster families to care for them all – immediately! For those who take action, the rescue provides supplies and veterinary care. For those interested in fostering anywhere, that’s generally how it works. What they need from you is a warm, loving, and safe environment.
“What do you need to provide? Just the TLC and a safe room for the cats to live – we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll supply all the necessary supplies and cover vet care expenses. Your love and attention can make a world of difference, ❤️🩹” LYFF shared.
By providing a cozy space, volunteers save lives and provide hope and healing.
“Remember the words: ‘I let my heart break a little so theirs will never break again.’ Fostering isn’t just about providing shelter; it’s about giving hope and healing,” they said.
