Adored actress Jenna Fischer has volunteered with LA’s Kitten Rescue for over 20 years. It started with fostering and finding homes for cats and kittens but progressed to working in TNR (trap, neuter, release) and even taking calls on the so-called “Dump Line” for abandoned cats!

Here she was recently for Halloween 2023, hilariously promoting adoption through the rescue with her ginger boy Sonny.

Back in 2019, Fischer and her family adopted Sonny, an orange ginger kitten from the same rescue. Or rather, Sonny adopted them, as she told PEOPLE:
“I’ve rescued and rehabilitated about 13 cats, which people often think that that means I have 13 cats personally, but actually we’ve been without a pet for a few years now,” Fischer tells PEOPLE. “We went in looking for a white and gray fluffy cat, that’s mostly what my daughter wanted. Little orange Sonny just walked right up to us. He was like, ‘Hey guys, so, I’ll be coming home with you today. Feel free to take a look around, check out some of the other cats, but in the end I will be your cat.’ That is how we met Sonny.”
She appeared in the magazine with Sonny for a “Most Beautiful” issue. But years before that, she appeared in PEOPLE with her first cat, Andy, a black and white cutie.

Jenna Fischer Helps Foster Three Adorable Ginger Babies
Over the summer, Fischer and her family teamed up with another fosterer to care for three of the cutest ginger kittens ever. Two of them are girls which is unusual since most gingers are boys, like our boy Marmalade.
“It was an incredibly rewarding experience,” she told Kitten Rescue LA.

They received classic American names: George, Martha and Betsy, the “Independence Day kittens.” All were found trying to survive outdoors with their mama and were mildly spicy at first, but once in foster care, they warmed up to the humans quickly. Meanwhile, their mother cat was TNR’d.
“They were found outside but are socializing well…George would like to know when the next meal is and he keeps a very tidy litter box, Betsy likes to PLAY ALL THE TIME PLEASE, and Martha is determined to conquer my husband’s slipper. It’s a cuteness overload,” Fischer shared.
Jenna Fischer Describes the Kittens’ Purrsonalities
In an update, Fischer shared how the kitten’s purrsonalities were emerging in the home.
“Martha! She’s the smartest of the bunch but also the most shy around people. So she will need a patient and loving human. She was born outside with her litter mates but she is slowly getting used to the comforts of being a house cat. She will curl up and take a nap on your lap and she LOVES to play. We’ve nicknamed her The Lookout because she loves a window seat. This gal is looking to bond with her special person. She’s such a sweet kitty,” she said.

“George! We call him The Mayor of Kittentown. This guy decided very early on that pets and snuggles were the best thing ever. He loves to purr and play and eat (he’s always the first and last at the food bowl. Haha.) He also loves kids and was most curious/brave about meeting Sonny (although Sonny shut that meet and greet down pretty quickly.) George walks with a swagger that is so endearing. Maybe it’s just his kitten belly, maybe it’s goofy confidence. He’s a standout kitty,” Fischer wrote.

“Betsy! Aka The Floof. This medium-haired beauty LOVES TO PLAY SERIOUSLY SHE LOVES IT! I’m talking flips and jumps and she might be a good contender for Kitty Cirque du Soleil. She also loves naps on laps and butt scratches. And she loves her sister Martha very much. (Are you looking for two orange gals?) Betsy also has a very loud purr that will melt your heart,” she shared.

Meanwhile, resident cat Sonny was not amewsed with the foster babies, writing:
“Help! My family is fostering kittens and I do not care for them. They purr and play all the time and they are really cute and I am not amused. I want them out of here please. I already have to deal with an annoying dog. Apply to adopt these cute wonderful sisters who I cannot stand at @kittenrescuela Their names are Betsy and Martha. (Or you can call them by the names I’ve given them Go Away and No.) I don’t care that they look like mini versions of me. ADOPT THEM!” Sonny the cat wrote.
Later, Sonny seemed to change his mind a little about the foster babies.
“The kittens are growing on me. But they still need a forever home. Just wanted to say they aren’t as horrible as I thought. The fluffy one has been renamed NotSoBad.”

‘Go For It!’ if You’re Thinking of Fostering
Fischer talks about fostering these kittens in the video below for Kitten Rescue LA. She also talks about the basics of fostering and what to expect, encouraging everyone who loves cats to try it.
“I am so proud to be part of the Kitten Rescue family. Every adoption story is unique, and if you’re thinking of fostering, I say, ‘Go for it!’ It is so incredible to be pat of that process of helping a cat or kitten find their home,” Jenna Fischer said.

Fischer also has a dog named Maggie, adopted back in 2021. Right away, Sonny found the pup’s tail “a pretty fun toy.” Since then, the antics have continued endlessly.
