A foster mom shares the story of caring for five identical black kittens.

Winnipeg Cat fosterer extraordinaire Laura G took in a surrendered and struggling pregnant cat Kilala and one black kitten. Despite every effort, the kitten passed away peacefully. However, another five kittens survived a C section and required syringe feeding and close monitoring.

For many people caring for five cats would be daunting, but this foster mom routinely cares for multiple cute kittens. Frequently, she posts the most amazing kitten group shots, which have to be seen to be believed. For example, see below!

Momma Kilala and Her Five Black Kittens

Here’s how the story begins with Kilala and her pretty black kittens:

“Momma Kilala was surrendered along with baby Lily on Wednesday afternoon, having given birth to Lily on Tuesday, unable to care for her and unable to birth her remaining babies,” Laura posted. “She was distressed and admitted to the hospital for an emergency c section, where thankfully all 5 remaining babies were rescued alive and well.”

Since Kilala would sometimes ignore the babies, Laura syringe fed the tiny black kittens every two hours.  Below, you can see them at three weeks old.

Next, you can see them at 4 weeks old.

“Four weeks old, and I still look at their bellies and bums to tell them apart 😆. Also, how cute is the lineup of little heads in the background of picture one? All 5 babies literally lined up and took turns climbing to the top of my knees for a little photoshoot!”

As you can see, the black kittens look virtually identical, and even she had to stop and check them closely to tell them apart. Four of the kittens have small white spots in different places.

  • Kai: male with a white spot on his neck
  • India: female with a white belly
  • Lennon: female with a white belly
  • Abraham: male that is all black
  • Amelia: female white a spot on her neck

Soon, the kittens grew and went from “awkward little ‘drunk potatoes’ to expert walkers who pose for the camera – Literal meowdels,” she posted on Instagram.

These black kittens love to climb, all coming to the top of the cat tree to see Laura.

“They don’t gotta climb, but they sure like to!” Laura posted.

In response to the video below, one person commented:

“That shot with their four little faces peering up at you as they cling to the tree is so utterly adorable 😍” they commented.

“I love love love when they do it. Like… climbing to get closer to ME? What made me so special 😩?!” replied Laura.

In another shot, all five black kittens are together on another tree.

“First ever group shot aka proof they are not all one cat 😆”

Then, we see them huddled together inside a cute lion cozy.

“How many tiny black babies did this lion fit in its mouth?”

Foster Cat Mom Pants

In another group shot, Laura G jokes that the kittens are her foster mom pants come to life. Anyone caring for this many kittens knows the fur does tend to coat every item of clothing.

“It’s the real-life version of my pants! You know the ones… I’ve only been living in them since March 2020 😆!”

“Not to play favorites but the little black kitten is my fave 😂😍” joked one person.

“Mine too hahaha😂” replied Laura G.

As it turned out, this would be the last group photo of the kittens since two were adopted shortly after.

Finding Forever Homes

The next day, Kai and India were adopted together, so the group is down to three now. Now Lennon, Amelia, and Abraham are “officially on the hunt for furever!” When you have to say goodbye, it can be very difficult, but knowing they will be loved forever makes it all worthwhile.

Laura G described what happened when the kittens’ foster parents arrived:

“Kai and India met their furever mommy and daddy yesterday and talk about love at first sight! Kai immediately climbed up into his Dad’s arms and purred himself to sleep, and when they opened the kennel door to leave, both Kai and India calmly walked in and settled in for a nap while the other 3 stayed behind on their tree. We all agreed – it was meant to be 🖤🖤. These kids have a wonderful new family to look forward to, complete with 2 resident feline friends and a doggo friend too!

Congrats Kai and India on finding your perfect forever!”

Now, it’s Amelia and her brother’s turn to begin a new life thanks to their caring foster mom.

“High Five for the Freaking Weekend! Featuring: Adoptable Kitten Amelia,” Laura G shared.
