“River is kitten covered in hearts. Remi is his brother, and he’s cool too. Ava is 16 and probably wouldn’t like you.”
Anyone who owns…or faithfully serves…their feline overlords, knows they can have strong personalities. Most times though, you need to get to know a cat to truly discover their inner purrsonality. But not so for one cat named River.
Because sweet River wears his heart, or hearts, on his sleeve. And his head and his chest. And even on his bum!
The brotherly duo was welcomed into the home of Katie Duda after the loss of her beloved cat, Lucky. Although she still had her sassy cat Ava, her home was missing something. So she decided that she would adopt again.
But at Ava’a senior age, she knew that it would be better to get two younger felines that could keep each other company. And let Ava go about her business as she always had.
And when she found River and Remi in a local foster home for Wrenn’s Rescue, her heart was full once more. It may have been her mind playing tricks on her, but she thought she saw what appeared to be a heart shape on River’s chest. Eager to get her new boys home though, she scooped them up lovingly and didn’t investigate the handsome coat further.
It was a new experience for the boys in their new home and River was a bit shy. But Katie came him all the time he needed. Having his brother with him was essential in showing him he could explore safely. By the time he emerged, she hadn’t given the heart shape on his little body much thought.
That is until she saw River later relaxing in his new home, sprawled out peacefully.
The more and more she gazed at him lovingly, she realized he was covered in hearts!
“I confirmed [one on] his chest, noticed his nose was more heart-shaped than most cats, then under his paws, chin and more,” Duda told The Dodo. “To date, we’ve found seven complete hearts and two spots that look heartish at times.”
So while there are felines of every shape, color fur and personality, rarely do they come together so harmoniously. Because apparently River is truly full of love.
“River is an old soul,” Duda said. “He’s calm, attentive and loving. My children have been able to gently grieve and heal with River and Remi by their side.”
“I expected the kittens to bring us joy, but truly they’ve brought us peace,” she added. “River, covered in hearts, is mending broken hearts.”
Anytime you need a bit of love in your heart of hearts, you can simply visit River, Remi and of course Ava on their Instagram page!
Thank you so much to the Duda family for adopting and getting siblings at that! We’re sure the love will never stop from those grateful boys.
