Betty went from a precious pet to an internet star practically overnight! The pandemic has been difficult for us all. But Betty just made it a little bit easier to smile. Due to work at home orders, meteorologist Jeff Lyons of the WFIE 14 News team, has had to transform his living room into his new office. Working with a green screen from home surely meant that Betty would get screen time too, right?!

Betty both loves and craves attention and decided she could wait no longer. She made her big debut during one of Lyon’s recent weather reports. Demanding to be pet, Lyon’s did not hesitate to pick her up and go with the flow.

Now, Betty is affectionately known as the Weather Cat.

And she appears often on the Channel 14 News weather reports. It is no surprise that she has taken on this role with ease and fluffy good looks!

Since making her first appearance made in April of 2020, Lyon’s fans cannot get enough!

His ratings have gone up with viewers from all over. People from England, Australia, and Spain are even tuning in just to see Betty in action! Rolling with the punches, Lyon’s has incorporated a “Betty the Weather Cat Tracker.” Together, they take a look at who in the world is watching their weather reports! During just one of his reports, the tracker showed that 220,000 people were tuned in to watch this dynamic duo!

“Working from home has been an adventure. I have my studio and green screen set up in the living room. It’s nice to have a 30-second commute after the late news,” said Lyon’s.

Betty is even known to be quite the onscreen diva. Because she will sneak in a camera test to ensure that the lighting is just right before a broadcast! Perhaps Lyon’s should be nervous as Betty seems to be taking her new role in stride?

“W.C Fields famously said: ‘Never work with kids or animals.’ I should heed that advice, but I think I’ve been replaced. Maybe the better quote is: ‘Claim victory and depart the field,” said Lyon’s.
