The fashion world lost an icon this week as news of the passing of Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld was announced this past Tuesday. Many celebrities and fellow fashion alum took to their social media accounts to mourn the loss of the visionary legend, who has served as Chanel’s creative director since 1983. Lagerfeld was said to have passed away after contracting a sudden illness. He was 85 at the time of his death. He lived a colorful life full of abundance, fashion, and controversy. But one thing is certain, there is no one, nor will there ever be, anyone quite like him.

This image of the iconic Lagerfeld was shared to his personal Twitter account on February 19, 2019:

Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, the head of the conglomerate which runs Fendi, took to their website to pay tribute to the late “creative genius” that was native German, Lagerfeld:

“With the passing of Karl Lagerfeld we have lost a creative genius who helped to make Paris the fashion capital of the world and Fendi one of the most innovative Italian houses. We owe him a great deal: his taste and talent were the most exceptional I have ever known. Artistic director of Jean Patou in 1959, creator of Fendi since 1965, member of the LVMH Prize jury since its creation in 2013, he honored the LVMH group with an extraordinarily stimulating creative and entrepreneurial friendship.

I will always remember his immense imagination, his ability to conceive new trends for every season, his inexhaustible energy, the virtuosity of his drawings, his carefully guarded independence, his encyclopedic culture, and his unique wit and eloquence. The death of this dear friend deeply saddens me, my wife and my children. We loved and admired him deeply. Fashion and culture has lost a great inspiration.”

And not only does Lagerfeld leave behind a profound legacy, but also an impressive fortune.

The fashion house’s frontman was said to be worth an estimated $195 million dollars.

Many of us knew him for his outspoken nature, signature white ponytail, and matching dark shades and suits. But what you may not have known, is that Karl was a proud cat dad to Choupette who he praised and shared photos of regularly.

In an 2015 interview with French magazine “Le Figaro,” Lagerfeld was even quoted as referring to his feline pride and joy as an “heiress”….

“If something happens to me, the person who will take care of her will not be in misery.”

Choupette was a celebrity in her own right, and her cat dad lavished her just like the queen that she was, and still is. Her adorable “puss” was available on numerous fashion pieces and collections over the years.

“Choupette is such a strange thing because I never thought that I could fall in love with an animal like this.” — Karl Lagerfeld.

A purrsonal message from her Twitter account, @ChoupettesDiary:

With her lavish lifestyle, Lagerfeld referred to caring for her as a full-time job, even hiring maids solely dedicated to her individual care.

To date, she has an impressive 235k Instagram followers, and over 50k followers on Twitter. It’s also been rumored that since her father introduced her to the fashion world, her cat modeling gigs have netted her nearly $3 million dollars. Talk about a cat star!

In 2017, “dahhling” Choupette was also modeled into a limited run plush toy.

Working with conic German toy maker, Steiff, the duo created the showstopping creation. The fluffy companion was marketed with a staggering $545 price tag!

The cuddly soft toy mimics the appearance of the real-life Choupette, with immaculate fluffy white fur and big blue eyes. She’s even accompanied by a magnetic mouse companion for playtime.

“Choupette is such a famous and beautiful cat that when this request came to me, I was not even surprised,” said Karl Lagerfeld. “Steiff is the perfect choice for this kind of collaboration. It’s the only company that has the required expertise to highlight the extreme and absolute refinement of this young princess.”

This exclusive piece is highly covetable and limited edition – just 2,000 pieces have been produced worldwide.

The previous record for the richest heiress cat in history belongs to British cat Blackie. The house panther inherited an estate worth almost $13 million dollars after his owner’s passing in 1988.

Details have yet to be revealed on Choupette’s exact inheritance. Something tells us this pretty white kitty will have a lot of zeros added to her bank account. Our hearts go out to her during this difficult time. Surely no one on this earth loved her quite like the late Karl Lagerfeld.

REMEMBER: ADOPT, DON’T SHOP; FOSTERING SAVES LIVES & SPAY AND NEUTER!
