Could rescuing a cat bring you good luck? Well, according to a Tacoma, Washington, postal worker, rescuing a calico kitten brought him luck in the form of a huge lottery win! And it’s not the first time people who’ve rescued a cat credit their lottery win to their cats.
We’ve previously shared the story of a UK couple who say rescuing a stray black cat led to a lottery win. And, a Colorado self-described “Cat Lady” won the second-largest Lotto+ jackpot in the state’s history.
Here’s the story of the very lucky events in Tacoma and a calico kitten with orange cheeks named Peaches.
Tacoma Postal Worker Rescues Kitten
One day, Joseph Waldherr was picking up mail and packages and heard distressed meows. Although he tried to find where the meows were coming from, he was unsuccessful. Where was that kitten hiding? Unfortunately, he ran out of time and had to return to work.
Returning the next morning, he heard the sounds again. This time, he fortunately tracked the sound to the trapped kitten. Reaching into a “tight spot,” he pulled the calico cutie to safety. After such an ordeal, Peaches was extremely lucky to be safe and alive!
A Lucky Day for a Kitten and the Lottery
The lucky kitten, later named Peaches, stayed with the postal worker for the rest of the day, napping in his sweatshirt pocket. After work, he carried her home to show his wife, Tristin. On the way home, he decided to test his luck with a $1 HIT 5 lotto ticket from the convenience store.
“I’m having a lucky day,” he thought. “Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.”
For the next few days, the lotto ticket sat there. Meanwhile, Waldherr and his wife fell in love with Peaches and decided to adopt her. Eventually, the couple remembered to scan the ticket on the phone and got a surprising message: “See Lottery Office.”
After checking online, they celebrated a giant win with a family dinner. Because the ticket won the couple $717,500, half of the $1.4 million July 31 jackpot split with another winning ticket!
Today, Waldherr and his wife credit their lottery win to saving and adopting Peaches. Certainly, helping animals is its own reward in many ways: unconditional love, relieving suffering, and changing lives. We can confirm that being kind to animals, including black cats like Cole and Mazikeen, brings lots o’ luck. But hey, wouldn’t a lottery win be great, too?
Wins for Charity and Helping Others
In this case, the winning family wants to pay their good luck forward, content with what they have in life. They reportedly plan to donate to charities and help Waldherr’s parents retire comfortably. We bet they will enjoy many wonderful family dinners and memories together.
“My wife and I have everything we need. We just want to help others,” he said.
And we’re sure that Peaches will have everything she could ever want in her new home! Can you imagine the spectacular catio you could buy with such a lottery win?
