Here’s an unusual rescue from Katy, Texas, of a little family of rescued orange kitties: Archie, Jughead, and Josie. Why is it unusual? Because Archie is the dad who tenderly cares for Jughead and Josie after their mama got away. Archie became the best cat dad ever, cleaning and even letting the kittens try to nurse.
Many times, it’s the male cats, sometimes formerly feral tomcats, who love fostering kittens the most!
Sadly, someone found the cats sealed inside an Amazon box with duct tape. They were lucky just to survive. But the mama cat got loose and took off. That left Archie to care for them, and he sure did!
Archie is the Best Cat Dad Ever
Archie was such a doting dad that he cried when rescuers separated him from his babies. As a result, they kept two of the litter of six with him. (The remaining four have already been adopted.)
He was so attentive that he surprised his foster mom, bathing the kittens, and taking over the duties of the mama cat.
“I have never seen a male cat take such loving and affectionate care of babies!” said foster mom Emily Gammon of Auntie Em’s Foster Kittens. “I thought I was going to have to give daily butt baths.. until I came in, and he had cleaned all six of them and was snuggled up with them all. We had planned on sending the six kittens to their new foster this week, but when separated from them, Archie cried the most mournful cry I have ever heard. So we were able to keep him with two of the babies, and he is a proud daddy!”
For Father’s Day, the rescuers shared a tribute to Archie.
“Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads who have stepped up even when times are tough. Archie is the best cat dad ever!”
Archie Plays with His Babies
After quarantine, Archie was very happy to go in the foster room. Emily shared the cutest video of the little family playing together.
As usual, Archie is the best dad, reminding us of dads who play ball with their kids.

Jughead and Josie Grow Up Fast!
Days later, Jughead and Josie were already looking so grown-up. Soon, they will fly away to furever homes, but the rescuers hoped to keep Archie with at least one of his babies. Who wouldn’t want to adopt all three? And, yes, Josie is a less common and adorable female ginger baby.
At the time of this writing, the kitties are at Cuddle Buddies Rescue, but we suspect it won’t be for long. The adorable orange family was featured on national news. Like many foster kittens, they are overcoming ringworm and will need time to fully get over it with treatment.
There are many furbabies seeking homes in the Katy, Texas, area or a rescue or shelter near you.
Both babies closely resemble their doting dad, with oversized ears and the cutest purrsonalities.
