When an 8-week-old kitten was stolen from an adoption event, rescuers were absolutely gutted. And while it was caught on the stores CCTV camera, they didn’t recognize the thief. But still, the little black fluffy kitten named Oz was now missing from their lives. It would be a month before they received an update on the poor baby.

But when they did, the stolen kitten was actually returned to them!

It began at the Pet Valu store in Brampton, Ontario. The Peel Animal Rescue Society introduced 3 adorable kittens that would be at the location, ready for adoption. They remained there at the store hoping the exposure would help them get adopted. But for little Oz, as the trio waited for their humans, one person decided to take the little boy from his cage. No, per fire code regulations, sadly the cages are not locked. He put the kitten in a bag and simply walked out of the store unnoticed.

Shocked at the unbelievable gall of the thief, the organization posted about the crime on social media.

KITTEN STOLEN
One of our kittens available for adoption was stolen on the evening of July 9 from our Cat Adoption location at: PET VALU, 150 West Drive, Brampton, ON
The kitten is approximately 10 weeks old. A police report has been filed, and a Lost Pet report has been submitted to PetFBI. A poster has also been shared online to raise awareness and help locate this kitten. Please SHARE
Even with the camera footage and unique cat eye contacts appearance, there were no updates. The store staff and rescue members were broken hearted and furious. They imagined the worst for the sweet rescued kitten but still held out hope for the best scenario.

And on August 15th, over a month later, they received an amazing update.

At the Pet Valu, their General Sales Manager Stephanie Westcott-Murphy had been dedicated to locating the kitten. Not only does she work in the pet industry, she is a ‘Cat Rescuer, Foster, Adoption Co-ordinator, All For Love Cat Rescue (Co- Founder)’. She felt utterly horrible at what had happened in the store. But what she never expected, was to receive a call on that day from the thief themselves.
We received a phone call apologizing for all of the stress & problems that were caused & he said Baby Oz was in a box outside the store. We ran outside and sure enough, OZ WAS IN THE BOX [taped up near a garbage bin]. We were all screaming, crying & jumping for joy. WHAT A MIRACLE. Thank you SO MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS to EVERYONE who posted, told friends, put up posters, & physically went looking on the streets. We are SO UNBELIEVABLY GRATEFUL. We did it. We spread the word far & wide & it worked. BABY OZ IS HOME!!!
Although the sweet boy was skinnier, obviously starving, and smelled of urine, he was unharmed.

He was quickly scooped up into the arms of his human fosters who missed him immensely.
Now 15 weeks old, Oz is safe, happy, eating well, and being showered with love. He will be neutered, microchipped, and available for adoption soon: www.peelanimalrescuesociety.com/adopt-a-cat Please SHARE.
We can’t wait for the next update on Oz that hopefully shows him with his furever parents, a.k.a. purrmanent cat servants. Glad to have you back safe and sound Oz!
