Certain humans will see a box on the side of the road and immediately their heart will drop. These are the animal rescuers of the world. Because more times than should occur, there is a frightened animal within the discarded parcel. There are a number of reasons one may feel that this is the only option they have. That the animal will be better off being found by someone who can care for them. Perhaps in overpopulated city life, crowded shelters already turned the individual away. Because NOWHERE is there enough local and government support for animal services. Meaning the animals are suffering and the humans are stretched thin. While this rightly enrages animal lovers, we try to focus on the needy soul within. And this is what is important.
“Please Take Me To A Shelter” Reads Flimsy Box
In New York, there are many, many animal lovers and rescuers. One of those dedicated souls is Kyla (Kay-la) located in Brooklyn, who runs Eccentric Kittens, also known as Eccentric_Essence. She has been rescuing cats and finding homes for them for years now. And her Instagram feed is FULL of happy, adorable cats and kittens she has saved. Because without her, their stories may have had very different and way too early of endings.
But in February 2025, one furry soul has been given another chapter in their story with her help. It was on the cold and snow lined New York streets that a flimsy box was abandoned. And hidden inside was a terrified and lonely soul. Meanwhile, we can’t know how many people simply walked past the box without a care in the world. However, many simply disregarded the lifesaving plea written on the cardboard in large black marker.
Thankfully, there was one person with a conscious who did answer the call. And eventually, the inhabitant of the box found himself in a loving foster home through Kyla’s organization.
Surrounded by Comfort in Foster Care
Inside that box was an unbelievably sweet and cuddly tabby cat that they named Cooper. Sadly, it is heartbreakingly obvious that he was once a beloved family cat. Someone loved him, and someone will again. Surely, Kyla and Cooper’s foster family will make sure of that.
Sadly, this is becoming all too common, and it’s heartbreaking, no matter the reasons behind it. Street life is no place for a kitty that’s known the comfort of a home, and we’re so relieved that Cooper is now safe and cozy indoors, where he belongs.
So be sure to follow Kyla on social media to show her all the support she deserves! And if you are interested in adopting Cooper or one of the many other furkids waiting for their family, please visit here.

Hey just a heads up, I think you meant to use the word “conscience” but wrote conscious. Not sure how else to alert you to this minor typo. Thanks for the story!
You dump an animal , you will dump a human !!
Piss weak excuse…. dont get an animal if u cant keep it , desex it and feed it for life !!
Not brave enough to bring to a shelter themselves, talk about cowardly and inhumane. You belong in the depths of you know where . So sad
I cried through the whole story, but I’m glad someone took him in and I hope he finds a forever family soon. I now have 2 cats (I’m 69 and can’t care for more) down from 6 which is down from 13 that people dumped on our dead end street that had a pond at the end of it. I found homes for the other 7 then the 6 I kept went over the rainbow bridge, one after 23 years then we found 2 more and they followed the others and we found 2 more and I now live alone with the last 2 we found in an apartment.
Some people are thick as mince and heartless. What a beautiful sweet cat. Thank God for the good people who did the right thing. XxX
Im so happy there are people like you!! People are the worst, what they do to our beautiful fur baby’s. I would love to adopt one of your kitty’s. I just moved in with a roomate (no way) I have to get my own place so I can have a apt. Full of fur baby’s. Please keep saving these precious fur babys.
You, Kyla, are living proof that God’s Angels walk amongst us. I look up to you.
It kills me – I live in nyc. Sadly, we’ve had ppl here who hate n hurt cats.
Back in October, I came across a stray kitten. He was very sweet. I didn’t have a place for him, n was in crisis meself or I would have kept him. I took him to Flatbush cats, so he’d b safe. A couple weeks later, I got a basement apartment (maybe the cotton was blessing me to thank me?)in the same house I was renting a room in. Then a week after that, the landlady told me there was a cat she intended to drive off n dump, because he was fighting with her other cats. I told her to bring him down to me. I woke up one morning, and he was indeed inside me place. I’ve named him Gordon. He’s me darling. I love him very much. He’s a right cuddler.
Anyone who abandons a cat carelessly is an abuser. There aren’t all that many shelters here, but you could do better than this. You can take the tube (the subway) to some shelters, or try to find the cat a home. Anyone who abuses a cat deserves to be brutally abused themselves. Cars r innocent n don’t deserve to b mistreated.
*cats not cars lol.
If I had known about it, I’d have taken in this sacred precious cottony miracle of love .
