It’s always hard to say goodbye to foster kittens, but sometimes rescuers find it hard to resist a “foster fail.” For instance, a single kitten with unique needs can wiggle their way into one’s heart even more.

Such was the case with a meowgical calico kitten named after Alice in Wonderland. She had such a wonderful glow-up and left a purrmanent impression on everyone who saw her.

The Cutest Alice in Wonderland

Alice was about six weeks old when she was rescued from a Los Angeles-area shelter. Sadly, she was scheduled for end-of-day euthanasia because of her symptoms. So, there was no time to spare!

She is a wobbly kitten with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). But the rescuers knew she could live a normal, happy, pain-free life with some simple accommodations. Given a chance and a loving home, she could defy the odds.

“I named Alice after Alice in Wonderland. I love the message in that story because it emphasizes the importance of accepting and being our true selves and defying the odds,” said Alice’s foster mom, Jamie.

The Definition of Tiny But Mighty

This kitten will always have ‘ataxia,’ meaning she lacks coordination and has frequent tremors. Nevertheless, she was a happy from the start and full of boundless energy. As an unusual dilute calico, she was pretty as could be too.

“We should not feel bad for her, but instead celebrate her zest for life and her adaptability and resilience. Alice is the definition of tiny but mighty,” said Jamie.

According to Jamie, she was a character, “the wittlest, wobbliest, wiggle worm in the west. 🥹”

Alice ‘Slow Blinks’ at Mom

One day, Jamie caught the calico cutie ‘slow blinking’ lovingly at the camera.

“With cats, slow blinking is a sign of feeling safe, trust and expressing love. 😍 (and of course I was slow blinking back at her),” Jamie said. “Her head often tremors when she focuses intently on something, so when she is able to slow blink at me, my heart explodes. 😭🫶.”

Dreaming On a Rainbow Donut Bed

Alice takes on life in such a unique way, including when she sleeps. She has a cute rainbow donut bed, and she curls around it, dozing so cutely on her back.

The kitten was a “purr baby” when she held still. But most of the time, she was “an energizer bunny,” ravenously eating and entertaining herself for hours.

Off to Wonderland

The day for Alice to find Wonderland had arrived. After falling head over heels for the kitten and everything that makes her so special, it was extra hard to say goodbye. She was a beautiful and strong “force of nature,” ready to work magic wherever she went.

“Goodbye is the goal and I am so thrilled that Alice landed in such an amazing home where she will be loved and cherished for the rest of her life. She also has a new fur sibling to bond with. 🥰 Also, can we just admire how well Alice walks now?! Look at her go! Kittens are amazing at adapting and prove time and time again how resilient they are! Alice is a force of nature. I’m so proud of her, 🩷” Jamie said.

Below, you can see a little more information about Alice and kittens like her with CH from Baby Kitten Rescue. Caring for these lovable cats isn’t hard. However, one should expect they will probably always be wobbly and extra-lovable.

“It’s easy caring for a CH kitten/cat! Alice is able to eat, drink, play and potty on her own, so she’s an easy case. She’s like any other kitten, just wobbly. ❤️”
