Kittens often have many siblings in the litter, but that doesn’t mean they will be alike. In fact, they may look and behave as though they have nothing in common at all!

There’s a good reason for that, and it’s comical to see how very different cat siblings can often be.

Kitten Siblings with Different Fathers

One mama cat can have as many as 19 kittens, and all could have a different father! That’s why each furbaby can appear unrelated, with a rainbow of coat colors.

As they grow, their purrsonalities may also be like night and day. The fancy scientific term is heteropaternal superfecundation. Wow, that’s mouthful, but it’s not unique to cats. Dogs, cows, and even, on extremely rare occasions, twins born from the same mom can have different baby daddies.

Harvey the Cat is Nothing Like His Siblings

Here’s a hilarious video from Cat Dad and social media star Jordan Howlett, which demonstrates how different cat siblings can be.

“They all came from the same litter. They are all siblings, but I have no idea how this happened,” Howlett explained.

While two of Howlett’s kitties are sweet house panthers, their brother Harvey, a giant-sized grey fluffy guy, is the extroverted and lovable oddball. You can tell just by looking at him.

Buck the black cat takes after his calm, kind mother. He loves to watch movies every Wednesday.

Buck the kitty is exceptionally well-behaved, sweet and likes to watch movies.

But his pocket-size sister Peta takes after her known father and is sweet, cuddly, and usually very quiet. She enjoys cuddling with her dad when it’s cold outside but doesn’t care for her brothers much.

Then comes Harvey, the 20-pound feisty problem child who must have had a different father. He considers himself a human, only responds to “a man’s name,” and is always getting into trouble. For example, one day, he climbed the neighbor’s wall, broke in, and ate the dog’s food.

“He wasn’t even hungry, it was strictly for a power dynamic,” Howell joked.

Extreme Purrsonality Differences at the Vet

The differences in the three cat’s purrsonalites come through most when they go to the vet’s office. That’s when Harvey unleashes his wild side most, much like Marmalade! He’s so wild that Howlett jokes his picture is posted at the office with a warning to avoid him at all costs.

“The vet said he has a really hard time with authority,” Howell said.

After seeing a TikTok about kittens having different dads, he said, “It all makes sense now.”

Harvey Gets Banned from the Vet

Howlett went on to point out more comical ways that Harvey is not like his siblings in the video below. While his sister, Peta, is an “absolute delight” at the vet, Harvey, who loves to be held by his dad, turns into a terror and is banned, he joked.

“The vet said that Harvey is aware that his name is Harvey, because he kept scratching on anything he could, spelling the letter H,” he joked.

As unpredictable as Harvey can be, his dad wouldn’t trade him for the world.

“Me and Harvey are a team,” he said.
