Orange cats: they’re just not like other kitties, are they? As Marmalade and Bond certainly demonstrate, ginger cats can be in a league of their own, with quirky, endearing behaviors that always keep us laughing out loud daily!
As we know, Marmalade was blessed with an extra helping of ‘orange cat vibes,’ believing he was a tiny King of the Jungle since he was a kitten. He’s downright magical.
Likewise, an orange kitten from the Dallas, Texas, area, Hashbrown, was always a little bit different. Ok, make that a lot different.
Hashbrown’s Orange Cat Vibes
Over the summer, the ginger girl arrived at a rescue called Rainbow Kitten Rescue. At first, everyone thought she was a he, but as she grew they learned she was a girl.
“Orange cat vibes though am I right?”
She and her sister Omelette, white and orange, were extremely lucky. Their foster mom, Ashely, is an experienced Veterinary Technician, so they would always have access to a team of veterinarians if necessary. And they would always have lots of love.
Hashbrown was shy at first, but with some TLC, her ‘orange kitty personality’ emerged. She was super sweet and cuddly and an unusual ginger tabby. Only about 20% of ginger tabbies are female since they have to inherit the orange genes from both parents. Owing to their rarity, ginger girls are considered desirable to many folks and tend to get adopted faster (We’re partial to any orange kitty.).
“She is super sweet and has your typical very outgoing orange kitty personality.”
Hashbrown is Not Like Other Kitties
As one might expect, Hashbrown didn’t do things like other kitties. She climbed the bars of her kennel and protested loudly at the vet.

The Art of ‘Orange Catting’
Back at home, her ‘orange catting’ was on full display when she decided she preferred the German Shepherd’s elevated water bowl to drink from. She grew up with dogs and loved them, watching their every move. And the adult cats in the home liked to drink from the dog’s bowls sometimes. So maybe, she wanted to be like the big cats too?
The video of the cute moment went viral on TikTok (see below).
“Sometimes I just can not with these kittens 😂 [She] always does this now. And I think its because [she] watches my adult cats who can reach do it,” shared Rainbow Kitten Rescue.

A Health Scare
Not long after the viral TikTok, Hashbrown became very ill with a high temperature. Was it because of drinking out of the dog’s bowl? It’s not likely; she really was just showing her orange cat license that day. But she might have been feeling extra thirsty, too.
Right away, the veterinarian started her on antibiotics and fluids and tested her to rule out anything serious, like Pyometra or FIP. After many visits, they determined Hashbrown merely had a urinary tract infection or UTI. With medication, her fever went down, and the infection soon went away, too. Whew! Everyone was so relieved for this cutie patootie!
As expected, Hashbrown found a loving home relatively fast. It was hard to see the funny girl go, but letting go meant Ashley could continue rescuing more cuties.
Recently, Ashley got to visit with the family who adopted Hashbrown and was so happy for them.
“Look who we got to see yesterday it’s HASHBROWN! I cannot believe how big she has grown, it feels like yesterday she was just a tiny baby. But she’s still her new moms baby forever I love seeing these happy endings. They remind me why we continue to do this,” shared Rainbow Kitten Rescue.
Meanwhile, the adorable Omelette may still be on the lookout for a loving home.
“Omelette is three months old and is at the perfect age to learn how to fit into any family. She is gentle, sweet and affectionate to all of us in the house.”
