The story of Wallaby, the cat from Tampa, broke voluntees hearts when they heard it. Despite being overrun with requests to help cats, they couldn’t help but pull him from a shelter when they saw a desperate plea for help. At five years old, he was on a euthanasia list due to needing expensive surgery, likely as a result of years of unspeakable abuse.
But none of that was Wallaby’s fault, and he only wanted to purr and cuddle with everyone.
The big fluffy tabby does resemble the Australian kangaroo-like creature. He’s brown and fluffy and doesn’t move like an ordinary cat. And even though he endured so much suffering, he became the sweetest purring lovebug, both with people and other cats. Such kitties inspire us so much as they focus entirely on love.
“He is a survivor, and even though he’s had a hard life, he hasn’t let it turn him into a mean cat. If anything, his true loving personality has come out! He NEEDS someone to love,” shared Rescue Pets of Florida.
Wallaby Survived Multiple Fractures Somehow
The details of Wallaby’s injuries are extensive and disturbing. He had a broken front and rear leg, both healed over time. But he also had a badly fractured pelvis that led to related problems as his body once again tried to recover after months in the shelter. One leg became dislocated, and he became badly constipated as the nerves in his spine became pinched. It was a lot, and yet his spirits were so high.
The list of Wallaby’s health concerns was daunting, (see below) but that didn’t stop these volunteer rescuers.
To save him, the rescuers would need rescuing themselves, with generous donations for Wallaby’s care. Thanks to people who cared enough to donate, they were able to give him the surgery he needed. Then he recuperated in a loving foster home.
Wallaby’s Healing Purrs
Soon after arriving with so many injuries, the rescue shared how he was doing – purring away at top volume! As we’ve shared before, a cat’s purr does have healing frequencies. In fact, studies show a cat’s purr can help them heal themselves and benefit people in astonishing ways.
So, Wallaby was truly healing himself, and it seems to have helped!
“Despite a possible history of abuse and a hip surgery, and just BARELY being rescued before euthanasia, Wallaby is the sweetest boi… please be the one to give him the furever home he deserves!”

Wallaby Jumps into a New Life
Only a month after hip surgery, Wallaby was doing so well he began looking for a new home. He appeared for National Adoption Week on July 13, looking so handsome and hopeful.
An Ameowzing Success Story
The same day he went to the pet store adoption center, Wallaby’s furever family arrived! Such a success story is tremendous, particularly since adult cats tend to have a longer wait, much less cats that have ongoing health needs. It melted everyone’s hearts. And even better, the rescuers saw 151 adoptions that week!
“💜 WALLABY GOT ADOPTED. He was a hard luck case we pulled from PRC who needed hip surgery and a long term medical foster stay to recuperate – and despite how amazing his purrs are, he requires just a lil extra care due to the condition he was in for so long prior to hip surgery. FOUND A HOME TODAY.”
“To those of you adopters who are willing to open your hearts and your homes to those that need you the most, THANK YOU. You will not be disappointed.”
Wallaby found the love he was hoping for with help from some angels in disguise.
“AND TO OUR FOSTERS who work endlessly, medical and otherwise, to give these kitties (and dogs, and horses, and pigs, and mini donkeys) a home, love and HOPE until their perfect match comes along, thank you is not even enough. You are angels. No cap,” Rescue Pets of Florida wrote.
