Rocco became a ‘Miracle Cat’ after firefighters found him alive and pulled him from a destroyed home in Rio San Lorenzo, Italy. Nobody knew how the cat survived a 6.2-magnitude earthquake in central Italy that hit a month earlier. Furthermore, it’s a mystery how he was finding food or water. But to see him, he came through the earthquake unscathed.
Rocco’s survival became even more shocking, considering the firefighters were on the scene to demolish what was left of the structure’s walls.
“Yesterday the firefighters returned to the village, to carry out an inspection in order to proceed with the demolition of some unsafe walls of the house: during the inspection and preparatory work, they identified the cat stuck inside the building,” reported Italian news.
Rocco Reunited with Amazed Family
The firefighters heard Rocco’s faint meows from the rubble and were shocked.
At the time, the home’s owners were on the scene to watch the demolition. Then they got some unexpected good news!
A reunion video showed the family cuddling Rocco, who calmly purred despite his ordeal.

Rocco Jumped Out of a Window
Even more ameowzing, Rocco’s health was good aside from serious dehydration. A veterinarian, Cristiana Graziani, treated Rocco and shared the video of the heartwarming reunion. She said the authorities found the cat when they rose up high on what was left of the building, opened a window, and Rocco jumped out.
He was still wearing his red bandana, which looked tattered. After the earthquake, over 250 people died, but seeing small signs like the fluffy Rocco, was a ray of hope.
We’ve seen so many cases where cat survivors give people a much-needed boost of hope after natural disasters.
Cat Named Pietro Also Pulled from the Rubble
As amazing as it is that Rocco survived, 900 pets made it out alive. One of them was a cat named Pietro, pulled out of the rubble 15 or 16 days after the earthquake in Amatrice, Italy. The video below of the amazing rescue went viral and people shared it all over the world. The story took on a life of its own as people tried to life their spirits despite all the destruction.
