- A family south of Grand Rapids, Michigan, shared what may be the cutest adoption story you’ll see. They adopted a coonhound named Loki from the local rescue called Michele’s Rescue.

The Thompson family adopted Loki on August 26, 2021. He was about 18 months old when the rescue shared his story on Facebook, which went semi-viral. Everyone fell in love with the pup.
“If you are looking for a handsome and well-mannered guy, I am your dog! My name is Loki, and I am about 18 months old,” the rescue shared. “I have the biggest and softest ears for you to scratch. I go outside to potty, sleep nicely in my crate, walk well on a leash, am good with kids and other dogs (cats too from what my foster mom knows but my current home doesn’t have any for me to love).
If you throw a tennis ball I will fetch and keep dropping it at your feet for you to play with me. Chewing on bones is also a favorite activity, but I am such a good boy I won’t chew things other than my toys. I would love a big yard to run and play in.”
But it was how the Thompsons introduced Loki to the family that was just the best (see video below).
Loki’s Adorable Adoption Story
A year after adopting Loki, Betsy Thompson shared the amazing story on her Instagram page called Abloom, beautiful handmade items. They found such a clever way to surprise their kids with a furry addition to the family they were hoping for.

Before bringing Loki home, they planned it all out. They introduced him to the kids on the lawn, and said they found him in the neighborhood, which was true. But they didn’t tell them that the dog would be living with them permanently, not yet. Of course, the kids immediately loved Loki, and the dog was thrilled too, tail a-wagging.
Then, their dad, Paul, asked them to read the dog’s address on his tag to “find out where he’s from.” The kids’ reaction to learning the dog’s address is priceless. The adoption story became a favorite for many and was shared many times online.
“Happy Adoption Day, Loki! One year ago, we adopted Loki, and he’s been loved on ever since! I couldn’t resist sharing the video again of when we told the kids. Makes me cry every time.”

For National Dog Rescue Day, Thomspon shared an update on Loki, who is doing great.
“Today is National Dog Rescue Day! We love our Loki and are so glad he is ours!” she said.

Loki Is Inspiring His Family
Recently, Loki has inspired Thompson to create a “wood quilt” piece with Loki’s likeness. Customers had requested pieces featuring their pet’s likeness, so naturally, Loki became the cute model.
