Nora, the dilute calico cat, is a Daddy’s girl. And her Mom feels like the “backup human” at times, she jokes. But this pretty and cuddly cat loves everyone without favorites. Ironically, Nora’s sweet and cuddly purrsonality is why she once found herself left at a shelter.

The family adopted Nora when they saw her at a pet store adoption center. They were picking up supplies for their resident cats and dog Wesley.

“I convinced my fiancé we needed to bring her home; I just had a feeling she was meant to be part of our family,” explained Ellen.

Someone abandoned her at a shelter for the strangest reasons; she was “unwanted” and super-affectionate. Yes, we’ve seen this bizarre excuse before! Later, a vet told them the kitten, aged one and a half, had previously had a litter of kittens. So, she had been through so much in such a short time.

The family who abandoned the gorgeous Nora adopted her during the pandemic but then found her too clingy. It’s one of many similar sad stories as people adopted pets while stuck at home, but abandoned them due to rising costs or when they returned to the workplace. It’s causing undue strain on already overwhelmed rescue shelters nationwide.

However, after being adopted by her new family, she quickly adjusted and began showing extra love to her Dad, Damien, who works from home. This time, he fully embraced the daily love-fest.

Nora Has a ‘Backup Human’

Nora’s new Mom, Ellen, found the kitty so unusual with her patches of grey and gold and white. If not for her, Nora may not have found a home so fast.

“When I saw Nora for the first time, I thought she was the most unique looking cat I’ve ever seen,” said Ellen.

Later, followers of Ellen’s other kitties on “Nala Meets World,” shared pictures of their cats. They all “look just like her,” Ellen said. However, Ellen believes Nora may be also be a rare American Ringtail Cat with a curving tail that hangs over her back. Her tail was seen as odd at the adoption center, but that just makes her more special to her Mom. If she is a Ringtail Cat, it’s possible whoever had her before may have been a breeder trying to make money for a rare breed. Please, adopt, and never shop for a cat.

Although Nora is a Daddy’s girl, she’s still happy to make biscuits on Mom Ellen’s face.

“When your cat makes biscuits on your face but you’re the backup human so you take all the affection you can get,” Mom Ellens shared. “Any other backup humans out there? 😩”

Nora is Safe and Wanted Now

Recently, the family looked back on how Nora found her way to them. The shelter marked that the cat was “unwanted,” but now, she’s got the best home full of love.

Immediately, “she knew she was finally safe and, most importantly, wanted,” Ellen said.

Nora shares the home with rescued female ginger tabby Nala, Diggle, an older ginger kitty, and Oliver, the senior tabby. While Nala took to Nora immediately, Diggle took some time to adjust, but she won him over with time.

Before introducing the cats, Nora went through a quarantine period to ensure the transition went as smoothly as pawsible. These steps resemble how the family introduced Nala to Diggle as a kitten, inspired by the wise sage of all things feline, Jackson Galaxy.

Check out the important steps the family took below:

After settling into her home, Nora gained ‘forever home weight,” as her veterinarian called it. She’s healthy, happy, and loved. You can follow Nora and “Nala Meets World” on InstagramFacebook, and TikTok.
