A litter of cute kittens grew up with two mamas after a house cat bonded with her adopted sister.
Chicago TikToker and foster cat mom Bea Castillo took in a stray pregnant cat, who then had kittens in April. Soon after arriving, her resident house cat fell in love with the mama cat and adopted her as her sister.
Warning: The story has a bittersweet ending.
Then, when the cat had kittens, her new adopted sister stayed beside her, refusing to leave her side. To tell them apart, the lighter grey cat in the front below is the mother.
“The kittens get two mamas!❤️❤️” said Castillo on TikTok.
Adopted Sister /Live-in Nanny Cat
Fortunately, the mom didn’t object as the house cat took on the role of a sweet Aunt or “live-in nanny” for the six babies (Four grey and two orange).
“The mom is a stray I took in when I saw she was pregnant, and my cat bonded with her ‘adopted’ sister,” Castillo explained on TikTok. “I foster cats but she’s never acted like this.❤️.”
Perhaps, the spayed house cat wanted to take her chance at being a mama.
“I think since my cat is spayed, she saw it as her chance to be a mama!” said Castillo on TikTok. “They’re both really good with each other and the kittens ❤️.”
“My cat had kittens and her sister won’t leave her side! Oh my heart!” read the caption.
Cat Won’t Leave the Side of Her Adopted Sister
In the comments on TikTok, there were some very cute comments. For example:
“She’s helping 😭😭😭” said one comment.
“She really thinks she is💕😻🤣🤣,” replied Castillo.
After the TikTok received over 853K views, the comments kept coming.
“She said these ‘OUR’ kittens 😂” commented one person, receiving thousands of likes.
“These are my nieces and nephews😭💘💘” said another person.
“Save room for auntie!” reads another comment.
“The sister is her doula 😍😍😍” said someone on TikTok.
“It takes a village man. 🤣 No, but this is seriously the cutest thing!” wrote another.
“Lol! Yes! It does! Hopefully people learn to spay/neuter their pets before letting them run loose,” Castillo replied.
In another TikTok, Castillo shares the tight bond between the adopted sisters. As you can see, her darker grey cat hugs from the mama when she joins the kittens in a large box. Whenever her house cat can, she runs into the room to join them.
A Bittersweet Ending
After Castillo shared the story of the closely-bonded sisters, everyone was shocked to learn that her cat, the darker grey one, passed away due to renal failure at the vet about a year later.
Afterward, her adopted sister visibly mourned the loss at nighttime. To help, Castillo gave her lots of love and affection as she slowly began doing better. In the household, there were other foster cats to keep her company, and she eventually formed new bonds. Thus, the story of the adopted sisters’ tight bond is bittersweet but remains a touching memory.
As for the kittens, they are “all healthy, happy and went to good homes.” They were blessed with two mamas and one human foster mom who loved them.
