Tuxedo cats Groucho, Harpo, and a grey polydactyl cat Gummitch, are three kitties saved by the Oregon Humane Society. According to the cats’ human, who goes by Rain Surname on social media, Harpo is a 14-year-old cancer survivor. Each day, the Tuxie cat diligently finds an object, generally a stuffed toy, to bring to his mom. Then, he unceremoniously drops it and sings “the song of his people,” letting out a yowl. Sometimes, he repeats the habit several times a day.

Harpo and His Daily Offerings
Thankfully for mama, this indoor kitty brings toys instead of mice!
On Instagram, there is a wall of posts of the cat proudly carrying his treasures.
“Every day, my cat Harpo brings me a pile of things while singing the song of his people, and I try to film him every day so other people can enjoy him too,” Rain writes.
Below, you can see a video of the proud kitty in action. By the end, he has quite a collection to display.

Harpo Loves to Bring His Mom All Sorts of Things
On Rain Surname’s YouTube, you can see that the cat has been at it for over five years.
“Harpo steals all day long. He steals the mail from the slot, the recycling from the bin, and the magnets from the fridge, all of which end up piled by my chair or in my doorway or on my bed,” writes Rain on Instagram.
Amusingly, he will carry all sorts of objects, sometimes almost as large as he is. For example, he is often seen with the green stuffed “sea monster,” carrying it with purpose across the home or from outside on the catio. It seems he likes a challenge, climbing high atop a closet to retrieve the perfect tributes.
“By training Harpo to steal more things more often in more challenging ways, I got him to steal things I didn’t want him to steal less. So he doesn’t raid the trash can very often anymore. But nobody’s perfect,” Rain said as he brought her a crumpled paper towel.
In another instance, he finds magnets with papers attached and carries the whole shebang to mom’s room.
“After years of Harpo stealing fridge magnets, I started putting them on other magnetic surfaces,” Rain says on his YouTube channel.
A Klepto-Kitty Who Never Rests
Even though Rain arranges stuffies for the cat to consider on his perch, he will instead decide to bring random things, like a ziplock bag. When it comes to the perfect offerings, variety is the spice of life. Whenever possible, he likes to mix it up. To keep his interest, mom places toys in new places for him to discover.
“Harpo with some of his prizes.”
Over the years, Rain has continued to humor the tuxie’s antics and has turned it to her benefit on occasion. Below, she allows Harpo to act as a funny feline paper shredder.
“I frequently give stress-inducing papers to Harpo so he can turn them into mirth-inducing papers.”
Hey, we could all use one of those!
In another clever twist, Rain’s subscribers can send in their photos or pics of their fur kids for the silly kitty to find. Others send stuffies hoping to entice the cat. Then, she posts the result for everyone’s amusement.
Although the klepto-kitty’s brother Groucho looks just like him, only Harpo is inclined to offer treasures.
