In August 2019, Moxie the calico cat, fortunately, found herself in the care of Cat Town rescuers based in Oakland, California. The group’s mission is to focus on finding “great homes for cats who are considered unadoptable in the traditional rescue model.” And the fact that this just happens to be the nations FIRST cat cafe, means these felines are in very dedicated hands.
Using a cage-free method, they place cats who appear challenging in shelters into loving foster homes until ready for adoption. Then, they go to an Adoption Center where people can meet them in a comfortably furnished living environment.
“We give them as much time as necessary to find their family,” Cat Town’s website states.
Moxie the Calico Finds Loving Home #1
Thanks to their patient efforts, Moxie found a loving home with someone who would really appreciate her. On Instagram, they showed her sealing the moment with a kiss.
“Moxie is adopted — and she sealed it with a kiss! We’re so happy for Moxie and her person!”
In their monthly blog, they featured the same heartwarming image of the calico.
“The adoption portrait of Moxie and her person says it all: the bond we have with our cats is real, and each is uniquely beautiful,” they wrote.
In all, the team managed to rescue over two dozen cats from shelters in just one month, thanks to support from the community.
Moxie the Calico Returns to Cat Town
As it turns out, Moxie’s first home was only temporary. As Cat Town reports, she was her adopter’s constant companion, but he sadly passed away. So, she returned to the rescue group thanks to a nice neighbor. From there, a serendipitous twist of fate helped Moxie find loving home #2.
“Moxie is adopted (again), and we’ve got chills! This calico lap cat swept her adopter off his feet with gentle face licks in 2019, and since then, has been his constant friend. Moxie’s adopter passed away recently, so a caring neighbor reached out to us for help.”
So, Moxie returned, and the group worked with her to once again ready her for another home. That’s when something extraordinary happened.
A Twist of Fate for Moxie
Before Moxie the calico was adopted in 2019, she met a special someone who arrived on their birthday (see picture below). At that time, they met Moxie in the Adoption Center and fell in love with her. They even took her picture of Moxie. However, they weren’t able to adopt her at that time.
Flash forward to August 2021, and the same person once more came to the Adoption Center on their birthday. By chance, Moxie was back years later. Interestingly, the rescuers had just determined Moxie was ready for adoption again.
“They still love her — and even showed us photos they still had on their phone from their first visit with her,” Cat Town wrote. “Of course, this time around, they adopted her. Moxie is home again.”
Over the last two years, Moxie provided love and companionship for her first adopter. Now, her mission was complete and she was ready to do the same for another family. It seems meant to be because this family had a special place in their hearts for Moxie already.
One Calico – Two Loving Homes
Although Moxie the calico has been through a lot, she found not one, but two loving homes thanks to the rescuers.
“Our goal is to find every cat in our care a good home for life, but sometimes we’re thrown a curveball and have to be resilient and adapt, just like Moxie. That’s why every Cat Town cat gets a promise from us that they will never have to set foot in a cage again. We are glad to keep that promise for her and overjoyed that we could find Moxie not one, but TWO loving homes.”
On social media, people responded to the amazing story:
“Look at that presh family photo, I am sure Moxie’s first adopter would be so happy to know she found a loving home. ❤️” one person wrote.
On Facebook, another person wrote:
“I am so sorry to hear of the passing of her first adopter. It was meant to be for Moxie and both of her families.”
“Usually it’s the cat that finds their people, in this case it’s the people who knew who their cat was. Either way, it’s always magic,” another person said.
It does seem like Moxie the calico was meant to find two families to love. Thanks to her guardian angels at Cat Town, she is sharing the love again. If you would like to help them rescue and place cats like Moxie in loving homes, you can donate here.
