A credit score of 800 or more is great. Being a sweet cat stuck at a shelter for more than 800 days makes that number not so great. But that’s exactly what happened to the gorgeous tabico cat, Cat Benitar.

Because Cat Benitar was a resident at the local humane society for more than 800 days before being adopted!

And let’s hope this one sticks because it’s not her first.

Back in 2016 she had arrived at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby in Tennessee. It’s no surprise that she was adopted in no time and welcomed into a loving home. She even had a puppy sibling to enjoy her time with. And all was well.
This cute little ball of fur named Cat Benitar went to her forever home today! She enjoyed meeting her new roommate and they are best of friends already. Thanks so much for adopting her!!

Cat Benitar’s First Adoption 2016

Until she was sadly returned in 2019 when tensions in the home became too much to handle. There are no specific details, but her family had likely done everything to try to help to no avail. So she was brought back to hopefully find the perfect home. They updated her bio to reflect that she would likely be happier in a home as an only cat or at the very least, with no dogs. Perhaps the new canine friendship had taken a turn for the worst.

And so she sat and waited for a forever home as the days turned into months.

And months into years.

The rescue was happy to share her loving face on their social media pages. She even got “dressed up” for their holiday photo to bring attention to shelter animals needing to be adopted.

Meet Cat Benitar, our Fourth Stray of Christmas! She’s an independent woman who loves sunbathing. She’s a quiet companion who doesn’t love dogs, but gets along great with humans! Come give Cat Benitar some love and donate today to help us care for all of our furry friends! And let’s face it – it is impossible to say no to that beautiful face and super cool name!

I mean, she even received fan mail…

You want a tour guide as you meet the animals looking for a human companion? Cat Benitar is your girl.

The staff and volunteers were easily won over with her loving personality. But it is NOT easy to find a home for an animal who may require all of the love and attention you can provide. These special souls are just as deserving as any other. It’s just that they may have gone through unknown horrors and difficulties, making them untrusting of others. Do you blame them though?

The shelter would be there for her another 800 days if she needed them to be.

But there was a light at the end of the very long tunnel for Cat Benitar. She would remain at the rescue no longer! They happily made the announcement on their Facebook page. CONGRATS TO CAT BENITAR AND HER NEW “MEOW”NAGER!
We are excited to announce that our beloved Cat Benitar has found a forever family! Her journey is inspiring and unique. Although she’s found a new home, [her] story is a great reminder that our animals will always have a home at the Humane Society – no matter how long it takes to find their forever family. All photos property of @MemphisHumane
