What do you do when you discover a disheveled kitten sleeping in front of your garage door? Well you save it, love it and keep it of course!
And that’s exactly what Joshua & Jose Francisco did when they found a solo ginger kitten at the entrance to their garage.
It began as any other day, when they found a tiny orange tabby cat curled up in front of their garage. The young stray didn’t seem to react much as they approached, which was concerning. But they knew he needed their help desperately. So they scooped him up and brought him into the safety of the garage.
Looking around the area, they could find no other cats or kittens to show where this baby had come from. One follower made a very valid point in reminding them to check on the roof of the garage. Many times, stray cats give birth or find shelter on rooftops. But this time, there were no signs that was the case.
Focusing on the frail body in front of them, they gave him some water before running to the pet store for food.
It was here that they realized he wasn’t even able to see!
As he dipped his head to the water in the bowl, they noticed that he would always reach his paw out first. He was using his paw to determine the water line to drink. Which meant that he was essentially blind!
They dubbed him “Whiskers” and planned to take him to the vet the next morning. At first, he wasn’t so sure about the food he smelled. But after a forced taste, he easily discovered food was a very good thing indeed.
He received a bath and they gently cleaned his eyes as best they could. What’s even cuter is that Whiskers is a BIG fan of the belly rub. And even being dried with the towel was very well received! If only all kittens were like that.
Even though he couldn’t see what was happening to him, Whiskers was overwhelmingly loving to the couple.
His now happier little body bounced around the garage with hope and kitten silliness.
At first, he wasn’t a huge fan of the car ride to the vet. But he quickly settled into his temporary transportation that would soon make him feel MUCH better. The vet staff was able to clean his eyes quite a bit, and he was given antibiotics to clear up his eye infections.
Now, Whiskers will remain in the safety of the garage for a few more days while on his meds. The men are dedicated to giving him is meds every two hours, and couldn’t be more willing to do so. Because he loves to thank them with purrs and adorable kitten-ness.
He will also be seeing an ophthalmologist to determine what, if anything, will need to be addressed with the double eye infections. But the Francisco’s promise to update their fans soon on his progress. Be sure to follow them on TikTok or Instagram @Mr.Gardeners!
I know we can’t WAIT to see the happy life that Whiskers has now that he found his people. Congratulations to the growing family and thank you to Joshua & Jose for being true heroes. You are an inspiration gentlemen!
