Right after Thanksgiving, foster mom and kitten caregiver, Dani the Cat lady, received a call from her local animal services with a request for rescue help. A tiny one week old kitten was brought into their facility in Pasco County, FL. Like many municipal shelters, they work with local rescues to place neonatal kittens and animals requiring specialized care.
And it just so happens, Dani the Cat Lady runs the local non-profit The Runaways Animal Rescue who specialize in neonatal care and special needs animals.
So, Gina at Pasco County Animal Services knew Dani was just the person to care for this special little soon to be named Applesauce.
You see, little Applesauce was very wobbly and the medical staff suspected he had something called Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH).
According to Tammy Hunter, DVM, Cerebellar hypoplasia is a developmental condition in which the cerebellum of the brain fails to develop properly. The cerebellum is the portion of the brain that controls fine motor skills, balance, and coordination. The condition is not painful or contagious.
Once Dani picked him up, she couldn’t wait to snap a photo and post him on her Instagram page.

On the drive home she took one look at him and knew he was as sweet as Applesauce. Little Applesauce was a good eater, but he was a bit wobbly. He tended to roll instead of crawl, but it was too early to tell if he did have Cerebellar Hypoplasia.
Since bottle baby kittens require round the clock care, Dani had to take him everywhere she went. This included taking him to work with Cole and Marmalade‘s mom, Jessica.
And, he even got to meet Marmalade!
Although, Marmalade was not too sure about his new temporary house guest. But Marmalade and the gang let Applesauce take a short ride in their Christmas sleigh.
As Applesauce continued to get bigger and stronger, the thought that he had CH quickly disappeared.
“He is running around the kitten room like he owns the place” his foster mom Dani said.
He’s taken a liking to the other resident kitten Chin-Chin. And he also has a future story to tell…that started in the Cat Man Chris Catty Shack!
They have become quite the pair.
Applesauce will soon be ready for adoption, we can’t see who wants to add him to their pantry. See what we did there? 🙂
