Group of Young Adults Caught Facetiming Friends to Laugh at "Ugly Cat" at Adoption Center

Yes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But there are those among humanity that can’t see beauty even when it’s shining brightly in their faces. And in this case, it seems a group of visitors to an animal adoption center in NY saw something they didn’t like. It was an innocent animal they decided to label ‘ugly’. Although they could have wisely kept it to themselves if they were perhaps older and more experienced in life. Yet, this group of young adults, mentioned to be likely in their early 20’s, decided to go another route.

One of them Facetimed her friend to show them just how ‘ugly’ this cat was.

Appalled at the rude and disgusting way they treated the cat named Maxwell, the location posted about it. Sidenote; the people that compare his kissable face to a bulldog are spot on!

Golden Paw Society, Inc. were nice enough not to post their faces. (I’m not sure I would have had that willpower.)

Slight problem. We rescue shelter cats. We focus on adult and senior cats that nobody wants. We do this not out of pity for these cats, but in reverence to them and because we truly believe they are golden and deserving of so much love!

We see bad and sad things almost daily – it comes with the territory – but what we witnessed today was painfully heartbreaking in a different way.

Young visitors, maybe in their early 20s, referred to Maxwell as “ugly” and then one of them facetimed her friend to laugh and point out how “disgusting” he is.

Don’t Be Part of the Problem

People with attitudes like these are truly ugly souls. And maybe as they grow up a bit, they’ll not treat others this way. Because you know that this type of person who will speak about rescued animals this way, probably treats other humans the same. Why even go to an animal adoption center if you just want a “breeder animal’? This type of uneducated young person is only hurting the tireless efforts and dedication animal rescuers provide.

Are we sad for Maxwell? Hell no. He is LOVED. He knows he is beautiful and so loved and, now that he has been rescued, his future is bright. Our sadness is for those who could possibly look at THIS being and think to criticize him – who could think to look at ANY living being who has been through terrible struggles, and laugh at how “disgusting” they are.

Praying for anyone who can think this way to find a way to open their hearts to compassion and empathy, not only for their own sakes and the quality of the lives they lead, but so they can help make this world a better place with their kindness. It matters.

And every one of those animals is BEAUTIFUL inside and out. Period.

Getting animals adopted out is the HARDEST thing about the rescue world.

One of several from a bad hoarding situation, he came to us quite beaten up – filth, fleas and fights had done a number on his skin and he has needed much healing.

So now lets help Maxwell find his perfect home with loving humans. His adorable face is just waiting for the right person to welcome him. Thank you immensely to the Golden Paw Society, Inc. for sharing this moment, good or bad. Some people just do not deserve the unconditional love of animals <3
