This story may have happy endings, but it touches on two very important things. The first; we must be better about teaching and practicing spay and neuter in cats. Those of us in rescue know just how quickly the cat populations can balloon out of control. And the second is the importance in having a plan for your pets when your life ends. Because for one person who sadly passed away, they left more than 50 cats alone in a very overcrowded RV.
Regardless of the owners sad passing, an RV is no place to house 53 cats.
But gratefully, these felines are all on to new lives thanks to shelter workers in Southwest Washington state. It was the Humane Society for Southwest Washington that shared the heart wrenching news on their social media.
URGENT RESCUE UPDATE
Yesterday, HSSW received notice from our animal control partners of more than 50 cats living in an RV. Within hours, several trucks arrived at our Vancouver Campus with 53 cats and kittens in need of immediate care. Our hardworking staff and volunteers leapt into action preparing our education center for intake and processing these cats and kittens.
They quickly set out examining each fluffy body to ensure they were healthy. Thankfully, it looks like the cats were pretty well cared for with not many health issues. Obviously any unfixed cats would be sterilized and medical issues were addressed.
But the shelter was FULL of all the other homeless souls they were caring for.
It didn’t stop them for one second from helping these 53 cats though. And with the grateful look in their eyes, it was easy to fall in love with them all.
WOW! What an amazing day.
57 pets (19 cats, 37 kittens, and 1 dog) found loving homes and families today. Thank you! We are wonderfully overwhelmed and deeply grateful to our community for the outpouring of support. Thank you for adopting, donating, signing up to foster, and for believing in our vision of a community where everyone loves and cares for animals.
And thank you to our incredible staff and volunteers for their hard work today and in the last few days. If you weren’t able to adopt today, thank you for your patience – come back tomorrow.
Thank you so much to the volunteers and staff for helping all the needy animals in your area! Be sure to follow them on social media and if you’re interested in adopting, here’s the link for the adorable felines in their care.
