It’s an all-too-familiar scenario: A pregnant stray cat wanders a neighborhood street. Left outside without shelter or food, it could easily spell disaster for the mama and her litter. But in this case, the mama cat, Mini, was extraordinarily lucky.

As Mini desperately looked for help, Washington rescuer Dabrielle Joy just happened to walk by! In her hour of need, she found an angel with no time to spare.

Heavily Pregnant Mini Had Nowhere to Go

When Joy discovered Mini, it was nighttime. From the looks of things, she was ready to give birth at any moment. At a glance, the rescuer knew the cat was badly malnourished and had been fighting for survival. And yet, her friendly behavior showed she had once been someone’s pet. But when she needed them most, they were nowhere to be found.

Fortunately, the serendipitous encounter turned Mini’s life around as the rescuers welcomed her into their home. There, the expectant mother was embraced as part of the family, even sharing their bed! Such a twist of fate couldn’t have come at a better time, as Mini’s kittens were already on the way!

Mini Gave Birth That Very Night

An experienced rescuer knows a full-night’s sleep is unlikely with newborns on the way. Sure enough, Mini’s kittens arrived within hours. Joy awoke to the first of them at 2:20 am that night.

It’s wonderful to see that Mini had such trust for Joy, comfortably lying on the bed as the newborns arrived, one by one. Such trust usually takes months to build, and yet Mini instinctively knew everything was going to be alright now.

It was an all-nighter, and Joy remained awake to witness nine kittens arrive, with the last coming early at 7:30 am.

Despite having a warm and safe shelter, only six of the kittens made it. But those that survived were beauties and so lucky to have safety and a loving home. If they had been born outdoors, none of them were likely to make it very long.

The Life This Mama Kitty Deserved

Thanks to her rescuers, Mini’s health quickly rebounded. As she regained a healthy weight, bald patches in her fur grew back. And she charmed her foster family so much that she ultimately secured a wonderful future.

A family friend’s parents adopted her, and she will always have a warm home and a lap to sleep on.

“She is the sweetest, cuddliest, and absolutely craves human love! She wants to be in your lap all day long,” the rescuer wrote.

Astonishingly, the touching story reached over 8.9 million people. And yet there are cats just like Mini all over the country, especially during the spring ‘kitten season.’ Very easily, you, or someone you know, might be the one to offer a mother cat like Mini a safe harbor for their family.

If you want to be the angel a mama cat needs, just reach out to a local rescue or shelter near you to learn more.
