Five years ago, Big Cat Rescue located in Tampa, Florida, decided to expand their efforts to help more felines… even if that expansion was on a smaller scale than they were used to! On April 5th 2013, the dedicated sanctuary that provides a permanent home for unwanted, abused and neglected EXOTIC cats, took in their first domestic foster kitten.
We have new tiny neighbors meow!
Working closely with the Tampa Bay Humane Society, Big Cat Rescue (BCR) arranges accommodations for the needy fur-babies that cannot yet be put up for adoption. These are usually mother cats with their new litters, bottle fed kittens, kittens still too small for spaying & neutering (2 pounds is the legal minimal weight), and feral kittens that require socialization.

BCR’s devoted interns open their homes to the tiny cats and are available 24 hours a day to help feed and care for the kittens until they are old enough to have their first vaccines. SNAP testing is done on each kitten to check for the Feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency (FIV) viruses.
Once cleared by the vet, the kittens are introduced to their new housemates. Each day they are released into the Kitten Cabana to enjoy their days with other felines while their interns are busy taking care of their larger cousins.

Socializing the kittens and allowing them to fully “cat out” can help them become more friendly towards outside influences, ideally assisting in an eventually smoother adoption process.
And BONUS ~ The sanctuary broadcasts a LIVE feed of the daily antics of the silly kittens! You can watch all the fluffy felines learning how to play with dozens of toys, climb the numerous cat trees and interact with each other 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
